WCU to Battle Welsh National Team

The WCU women's lacrosse team will play the Welsh national team on Wednesday.

The following is a press release from the West Chester University Athletic Department.

West Chester University's nationally ranked women's lacrosse squad will host the Wales National Team on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Vonnie Gros Field in an exhibition match.

West Chester is one of nine university opponents that the Welsh national team will compete against during its U.S. tour this week. Wales arrived in the United States last Friday and has already scrimmaged Salisbury and Towson. The Welsh play Delaware on Monday and Princeton on Tuesday.

Wednesday's game with the Golden Rams is Wales' fifth scrimmage on the tour and first of two scheduled for Wednesday. The Welsh will scrimmage Penn Wednesday night at 6 p.m. They finish up their tour on Thursday and Friday with games against Stevenson and Gettysburg, before flying home on Saturday.

For West Chester, it is their one exhibition match before its season begins in earnest on March 7 with the season opener against Fort Lewis (Colo.) at Vonnie Gros Field. The Golden Rams reached the national championship game for the ninth time in school history last spring, falling 17-16, to C.W. Post.

West Chester returns eight starters from that squad, including first-team All-Americana and the preseason player of the year, Tori Dugan.
