WCU Basketball Keeps Rolling

Troy Hockaday scored a team high 17 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds as West Chester won its fifth straight with a 73-59 victory over visiting Kutztown in the PSAC East opener for both schools inside Hollinger Field House on Wednesday night.

West Chester (10-4, 8-2 PSAC) has won seven of its last nine and is off to its best start in league play since 2002-03. Kutztown (3-13, 2-8) dropped another heart-breaker to the rival Bears.

The Golden Rams picked up the defensive tenacity in the second half, holding the Golden Bears to just 24 points after the break. Kutztown made 7 of 29 attempts (24.1 percent) from the field in the final 20 minutes and were flustered into shooting 29.6 percent for the game.

Hockaday turned in a career night as the defensive specialist for the Rams ignited for 17 points, including a thunderous dunk, and grabbed seven offensive rebounds. He even contributed five assists to the cause.
 
Sophomore Corey Blake put up nine points with five rebounds and three steals. Jon Breeden had a well-balanced night with six points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. Junior Tim Flecken threw up a pair of threes for the night, finishing with eight points.

The Golden Rams sit alone in second place, keeping pace with East Stroudsburg.
 
West Chester returns to Hollinger Field House to take on Millersville Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Marauders enter the contest just one game back of the Golden Rams in the Eastern Division standings.
