Spring Sports Get Underway

Several teams were in action this past weekend as Spring Sports get underway.

With spring finally here, several local teams took to the track, the diamond and the pitch as spring sports got underway.

Henderson lost their home baseball opener to Twin Valley on Saturday, 11-6.  The Twin Valley Raiders are coming off a season where they finished second in District three and made it to the state semifinals. 

In track, the West Chester Henderson girls 4x800 team won the gold medal Saturday at the Annual Pennsylvania Track Classic at Great Valley High.  The team made up of Michelle Tracy, Janie Augustyn, Suzanne Sanders and Natalie Deacon won with a time of 9:37.43.

Rustin's Kayla Owens won the silver medal in shot put and also placed third in the discuss.  Also medaling for Rustin was Mariah Powell in the triple jump.  She finished second.

West Chester East only picked up one medal in the meet, but it was gold as Nick Libbi finished first in the 1,600 meters.

In girls lacrosse, East hung on to defeat Haverford High on Friday, 9-8, while Henderson fell to Ridley, 13-12.

Finally, on Thursday, the Rustin boys opened the Chest-Mont tennis season with a win over Downightown West 6-1.
