Offensive Outburst Lifts West Chester To Eighth Straight Win

The Golden Rams baseball team continues to roll with 13-5 victory.

The following is a press release from the West Chester University Athletic Department.

Jordan Wlodarczyk was 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI, and West Chester scored all 13 runs in its final four at bats, as the Golden Rams rolled to a 13-5 victory over Ohio Dominican in a non-league game as part of the Russmatt Collegiate Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Chain Of Lakes field.

West Chester pushed its season-opening win streak to eight straight while Ohio Dominican fell to 5-3. The Rams’ eight-game winning streak is half way to its school-record 16-game run at the beginning of the 2008 campaign under former head coach Greg Mamula.

West Chester scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead and then added two more in the sixth, before scoring four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Sophomore Matt McAllister (1-0) threw 7.1 innings in relief to register his first win with the Golden Rams. McAllister allowed three runs, only one of them earned, on three hits. He walked two and struck out five.

Kyle Weary came on and finished up, allowing one unearned run on two hits. Brent Roehrich started and lasted just one-third of an inning, surrendering one run on two hits. He walked one and struck out one.

Matt Baer tied the game at one with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Wlodarczyk followed up a few batters later with a two-run single that put the Golden Rams in front for good, 3-1. Chris Pula then hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and Baer followed with a RBI single of his own that pushed the advantage to 5-1.

Mike Raimo hit an RBI double in the seventh, Provine delivered West Chester’s third sacrifice fly in as many frames, and Pula hit a RBI single. The Rams added a fourth run on an error by ODU’s left fielder.

After the Panthers plated four runs in the top half of the eighth inning to draw within four (9-5), the Golden Rams got those four runs back in the bottom half with all four tallies coming on wild pitches.

Pula finished 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI while Raimo and Wendle each reached base safely for the eighth straight game. Raimo was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Wendle finished 2-for-4 with four runs scored.

West Chester will finish its postponed game with Minnesota-Duluth at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, before taking on PSAC West rival Slippery Rock in its final game down south. The Golden Rams return north after the tilt with The Rock to prepare for this weekend’s conference opening series with Mansfield.
