School District Web Site Wins Transparency Award

The West Chester Area School District wins an award for Web site transparency.

The West Chester Area School District has learned that its website was selected as a winner of the 2012 Sunshine Award. The Sunny Award is presented by the Editors of Sunshine Review to honor the most transparent public entity and government websites in the nation. More than 6,000 sites were reviewed in all 50 states for transparency regarding information access to the public. The WCASD was one of 214 sites to receive the award.             

Vince Murphy, President of the School Board, said, “The website provides our community with a wealth of information regarding the operations of the School District and, as we are proud to be recognized with a Sunny Award, the website is just one of the ways School District business is available for all to review.”

The WCASD site (www.wcasd.net) was recently reviewed by the Sunshine Review and determined to be an outstanding website based on the criteria of “transparency.” Winning websites scored an "A" transparency grade on Sunshine Review's transparency checklist. The group celebrates “Sunshine Week” from March 11-17.   Sunshine Review promotes transparency and affirmative disclosure at the state and local levels.

Sunshine Review used a “10 Point Transparency Checklist” to analyze websites, including local government and public education-based websites.
