East High School Computer Programming Team Finishes First

The team finished first out of 40 at a competition at Widner University.

The Computer Programming Team finished in first place out of 40 teams from the tri-state area at the 7th annual Widener University Computer Programming Competition.

Placed into groups of three, students were challenged to complete six complex tasks in the shortest amount of time. The topics for this year’s competition included Finding Abundant Numbers, DNA Sequencing, Encryption/Decryption, International Exchange Rate and Finance Charges, Product Optimization (linear programming), and John Conway Sequence. Top performers from East High School were Marshall Bowers, Nate Chodosh, and Michael Lin.

The East Computer Team competes in the USA Computing Olympiad (USACO) and the American Computer Science League (ACSL) throughout the school year. The team has been invited to the International All-Star Contest the last two years. They will be hosting this year’s International event during the 2012 Memorial Day weekend.
