Public Safety Highlights

The West Chester Borough Council Public Safety Committee met on Tuesday.

The West Chester Borough Council Public Safety Committee met Tuesday.  Here are the Highlights.

A New Stop Sign

Residents living near the intersection of Gay and Brandywine Streets asked the committee to consider putting in a new stop sign.  Police Chief Scott Bohn said that a similar request was made in 2009, but nothing came of it.  However, the committee made a recommendation that the police conduct a traffic study in order to start the process for a new stop sign.

Growers' Market Expansion

The West Chester Growers' Market has petitioned the committee for permission to expand, closing Church Street between Chestnut Street and Patton Alley.  Committee member John Manion said that the Growers' Market already had a "significant footprint," and he wondered if expansion was necessary. Committee Member Cassandra Jones said, "We block the streets off for enough events."  Despite those protests, the committee made a 3-0 recommendation that full council allow the market to expand.  If passed, the measure will close Church Street between Chestnut Street and Patton Alley on Saturdays in May through Dec.  from 8 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m.
