Borough Moves Forward with New Streetlight

The public works committee recommends a new streetlight.

The West Chester Borough Public works committee moved forward with a 3-0 recommendation to put in a new streetlight on the 200 block of South Matlack Street.

According to a resident at the meeting, there have been several instances of vandalism in the area, and the neighbors believe a new streelight would alleviate some of those problems.

"We don't want something super-bright," the resident said.  "Just something."

The light will cost the borough around $450 to install.

The Friends of Everhart Park have asked the borough to authorize overtime for public works department employees to help with volunteer efforts to remove leaves from the park in the fall.

Committee member John Manion said that he could not allow for any overtime in any circumstances.  He also stated that he knew his position was "absurd" because the overtime would only cost around $900.

Manion went on to say that money is pennies in the multi-million dollar borough budget, but he didn't want to open the door to anymore overtime requests.
