Two Men Arrested for DUI After Pottstown Pike Crashes, Police Say

The accidents occurred late last month, according to police.

The following incidents were reported by the West Whiteland Police Department. Arrest, when mentioned, does not suggest conviction.

DUI

A 24-year-old West Chester man was involved in a one-vehicle crash at Pottstown Pike and Kirkland Avenue on March 23 at 2 a.m., police are reporting.  The driver’s white Honda Insight had left the roadway, struck an embankment, and landed on its side, police say. While the driver was able to climb out of the car, the investigating officer detected evidence of intoxication and issued field sobriety tests. Police say the man failed those tests and was placed under arrest. He was charged with DUI and careless driving.

DUI 

A 52-year-old West Chester man was involved in a one-vehicle crash on Pottstown Pike at 4:30 p.m. on March 28, police are reporting. According to police, the driver was traveling north amid rush hour traffic and didn’t see traffic ahead stopping. He swerved to avoid a car ahead and left the roadway, striking a sign, tree, and guardrail along the way. Police say the investigating officer detected evidence of intoxication and issued field sobriety tests. The driver failed those tests and was placed under arrest. He was charged with DUI, careless driving, and failure to drive at a safe speed.

Retail Theft

A 20-year-old West Chester woman was detained at the Macy’s store in the Exton Square Mall after store personnel watched her conceal $115 worth of merchandise and then leave without paying, police are reporting.  The woman was placed under arrest and brought to the police station for booking, after which she was issued a citation for retail theft and released.

A 31-year-old West Chester man was arrested at the Target store in Exton on March 16 at 2:30 p.m. after employees saw him conceal $237 worth of electronics equipment in his sweatshirt and leave the store without paying, police are reporting.
