West Chester Man Busted for Shoplifting $400, Police Say

The attempted theft occurred at a local Giant, according to Westtown-East Goshen police.

A 42-year-old West Chester man was arrested this weekend after police say he was busted stealing nearly $400 of merchandise from a local Giant Food Store.

On Sunday at 6:57 p.m., Westtown-East Goshen Police responded to the Thornbury Giant Food Store at 1393 Dilworthtown Crossing for a retail theft suspect in custody, according to Lieutenant William Cahill.

Police arrived and met with the store’s loss prevention associates, who said they saw the defendant attempt to leave the store with a basket of stolen merchandise.

Police say they found additional concealed merchandise inside the man’s winter jacket. Police determined the man attempted to steal a total of $397.96

Police say the defendant was charged with misdemeanor retail theft and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Seavey. He faces preliminary hearing on March 26.
