Man Charged with Embezzling from County Treasurer
His crimes cost Chester County taxpayers $10,252.91, the District Attorney's Office said.
A man has been arrested and charged with embezzling more than $5,000 from the Chester County Treasurer's Office.
Sean Patterson, 27, of West Chester had worked in the County Treasurer's Office since 2011, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said.
Patterson accepted cash payments from taxpayers, the District Attorney's Office said, and kept the money for himself. He then tampered with county computer accounts to hide his crimes, the DA's Office said.
“Theft of taxpayer funds by a government employee is an extreme abuse of trust," Hogan said. "The public has a right to expect government employees to do their jobs honestly. We will not permit this type of criminal conduct in Chester County government.”
Patterson stole a total of $5,866.51, the District Attorney's Office said, and his changes to county accounts created an additional loss of $4,386.40. The total loss to Chester County taxpayers is $10,252.91.Paterson has been charged with felony theft, tampering with public records and related offenses.
