5,000 Firefighters Coming to West Chester

The borough's own Fame Fire Company is hosting a statewide parade and convention Saturday.

If you happen to see a few thousand firemen walking around the borough this weekend, don’t worry: there isn’t a giant fire somewhere close by.

The Firemen’s Association annual convention and parade are coming to West Chester on Sept 28. More than 5,000 firemen, 300 apparatus, various marching bands and floats from departments across the state will parade through West Chester.

West Chester’s own Fame Fire Company 3 will be hosting the event. According to a release from the department, “spectators can expect to see marching bands from local schools and universities, majorettes, antique cars, fire engines and horse carriages on display.”

“We hope families will come out and show support for the fire community,” event chairman and Fame firefighter Mike McCarthy said in a release. “On top of it all I’m honored to be a part of Fame Fire Company which is celebrating a tremendous achievement for service.”

The parade begins at noon and runs through the West Chester business district past East Market Street, down High Street, past West Chester University’s Asplundh Hall and ends at the Fame Fire Company located at 200 East Rosedale Avenue around 3:30pm.
