Moms Talk: Fourth of July

Area moms discuss Fourth of July festivals and their children.

Today we have assembled a panel of four local moms to get the inside scoop on what to do and where to go with the toddler set for Independence Day. Joining us are Danielle Cressman, Trish McCormick, writer Sarah Alderman and Kelly McCann.

Patch: Where do you and your children go to see Fourth of July fireworks?

Danielle Cressman, lives in Coatesville: We go to the Coatesville fireworks every year. Crowds are not bad at all, but you should get there a little in advance to get a good spot. There is plenty of room for the little ones to play, and a band before the fireworks. Take food and some outdoor toys to make a picnic out of it. A very family-friendly atmosphere, which is appreciated.

Trish McCormick, lives in Downingtown: United Sports in Downingtown puts on a great show. The past few years it hasn't been too crowded. We set up on the fields and the kids are able to run around. We pack a cooler, bring blankets and chairs and have a little picnic. They also have a snack bar open if you don't want to lug a cooler around.

Sarah Alderman, lives in West Chester: I have always been a Kerr Park Good Neighbor's Day fan but in the past, I avoided the crowd by parking near the trestle bridge on Route 322 and watching from the hood of my car with my beloved. Now with two three-year olds that seems dangerous, but I'm still not willing to deal with the crowds. I think we'll take in the United Sports display from the comfort of my friend's house that is right nearby. Feet in a pool and eyes on the skies, sounds good to me! This will be the twins' first year staying up for fireworks so if they act up, at least I know I can lay them down on the couch and not have the whole night turn into a disaster.

Kelly McCann, lives in Exton: We love fireworks at Miller Park, in Exton! We go to the parking garage at the Exton Mall and watch from there. Plenty of room, sit in the back of the SUV and watch them from there or in chairs next to the car. They are on Sunday night!
