Dual Review: High Street Caffe and Cuisine to Go

Your foodie impulses need never be curbed by rain again

As seems to be the trend these days, it was a rainy night and no one wanted to leave the house to dine out. The boss of the house, however, was craving a dish with a Cajun flair. Seeing as the cook in question specializes in Italian cuisine, this was a job to be outsourced. Both the foodie and her sidekick agreed that was the only solution—but who would be designated to go and pick it up? A decidedly first-world problem with a first rate solution.

Enter Cuisine to Go, Chester County’s very own delivery service for the restaurants you always wished delivered. Pizza boxes and greasy Chinese food be damned! Now the culinary likes of Amani’s BYOB, The Drafting Room, Nonna’s, and yes, High Street Caffe can all be yours within the comfort of your domicile. With a quick visit to cuisinetogo.net or a call to 610.363.6606, you can be enjoying Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House while you watch Boardwalk Empire or on the nights you can’t find a babysitter.

We ordered our meals to be delivered at 6:30 p.m., and they were delivered by Mason a little early. The ordering and payment processing was simple. The total includes a $3.99 delivery service and gratuity; there’s nothing to sign when the driver arrives.

For our meals, we decided to see how High Street’s menu staples fare when packaged and delivered. We chose to share the Lobster Ravioli entrée ($29), and the Voodoo Shrimp ($10) and Cajun Stuffed Mushroom ($10) from the appetizer menu. This was just right for the two of us. We were impressed with the consistency of quality between our delivered meals and food enjoyed within the superior ambiance of the restaurant itself.

Our meal included the Caffe’s special bread and butter, one of our favorites. All of our dishes arrived at their appropriate temperatures, even the Flourless Chocolate Cake ($9) surrounded by berries. The Voodoo Shrimp was expectedly hot in every way, and the Lobster Ravioli a delightful blend of creamy, rich, and spicy.

Our only small complaints about the service are the non-descript voice mail greeting reached when you call Cuisine to Go (did we dial the wrong number?) and that the cake was missing from our order (which was quickly fixed, and before we were finished with our dinner). A small price to pay for having your favorite “special occasion” meal delivered to your doorstep.

Another great feature of Cuisine to Go is since you are dining in, you can have your box of wine and drink it, too: no corking fee, and no need for a designated driver. Hopefully other West Chester restaurants will follow in the impeccable footsteps of the High Street Caffe and offer the service as well.

If you choose to dine in at High Street, arrive ready to enjoy a relaxing meal that will fill the expanse of your evening with New Orleans charm. If you haven’t dined with them before, the restaurant has a bar but also allows for guests to bring their own wine.

Dinner for two, delivered by Cuisine to Go: $69.10 before gratuity
