Studio Rilievo Open House, July 6

Continuing the celebration of 15 years of art instruction for artist Neilson Carlin and his Kennett Square studio and school, Studio Rilievo, the public is invited to an Open House at Studio Rilievo on Friday, July 6, 2012 in conjunction with Kennett Square’s monthly First Friday Art Stroll.

Carlin will conduct a live figure painting demonstration – the fourth in a series of educational demonstrations showing the color palette and process of beginning a painting. The open house is free and open to the public, from 6 to 9 p.m., with the painting demonstration from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Studio Rilievo offers instruction in classical painting with a curriculum designed around intensive, one-on-one training. All classes are limited in size, only nine students at a time, for nearly private tutoring. Each student receives personal attention with access to the instructor at all times. In such an atmosphere the focus remains on the individual who can progress at his or her own rate.

“I am looking forward to sharing my studio and my work with the Kennett Square community,” says Carlin. “With great respect for Howard Pyle, father of the Brandywine tradition, I have been working diligently to start a new tradition in Kennett Square.”

With that goal in mind, Carlin continues to provide a working environment in which students train under a master – an educational tradition dating back to the Renaissance. He is now also offering classes in drawing and design at Disegno Academy, part of Studio Rilievo. Modeled after the ateliers of 19th century France, the focus is preparing students for college study by perfecting the core principles and necessary skills of drawing.

“Comprehensive instruction at the student’s pace and an intimate learning environment sets Disegno Academy apart from other art education in the Philadelphia area,” says Carlin.

Like Studio Rilievo, Disegno Academy provides intensive, one-on-one training, this time catering to young adults ages 14 to 18. There is opportunity for immediate enrollment. Limited class size means each student has access to the instructor at all times. All work is done directly from life, and in-depth critiques are given daily.

Prospective students for either Studio Rilievo or Disegno Academy are encouraged to attend the Open House and meet with Neilson Carlin on July 6.  For more information, call 484-574-9200, e-mail studio@neilsoncarlin.com, or visit www.neilsoncarlin.com.  Studio Rilievo is located at 128 South Willow Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
