Photo of the Day: Historic Landmark

Did you know that Iron Hill used to be the site of West Chester's first school house?

While dining on a juicy burger at Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant, do you take in the historic significance of where you're sitting?

Today's photos depicts the sign marking this historical site with the brewery in the background.

It wasn't until 1799 that West Chester was labeled as a borough. But in 1760 it had a school.

Here's what the sign reads:

"Site if the first school house in West Chester (Turk's Head), built of logs, 1760. Used as a hospital for American wounded after the battle of Brandywine, Sept. 1777. Some soldiers died and were buried here in the schoolyard."
