Your Vote Could Earn the WC Library 50,000 New Free Books

The West Chester Public Library could receive as many as 50,000 new books for free with your vote.

The following is a press release. 6abc, Disney XD, Marvel Entertainment, and First Book are teaming up to champion literacy in the Delaware Valley by pledging to donate up to 50,000 brand-new books to low- income families by participating in First Book’s virtual book drive. Now through February 28, 2013, the 6abcPhiladelphia Facebook fan page contains a virtual book drive where fans can donate one brand-new book by clicking on the non-profit of their choice. One vote = one book. The six organizations eligible to receive up to 50,000 brand-new books include The Free Library of Philadelphia, the New Jersey Library Association, Cradles to Crayons, the Wilmington Public Library, Pajama Program, and the West Chester Public Library. Top Books of 2012

See which books were the most popular at the West Chester Public Library 2012.

When it comes to books in 2012, it was all about mystery thrillers -- particularly by Scandanavian authors. West Chester Public Library director Victoria Dow said that's because of a trend started by "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." "The mystery thriller kind of genre books...are the ones that generally circulate the most," she said. "It doesn't surprise me that that type of book is [popular]." Dow said that all the books on West Chester's most circulated top 10 are available at the library, as well as at other branches. 1. "As a Pig Turns" by M.C. The dog days of summer are here, and boy is it hot.  Here is the weekly Patch list of things to do as a family with an emphasis on ways to beat the heat.  I can't make any promises though. Sometimes it's hard to find things to do as a family.  So Patch wants to help.  Every week we are going to publish a list of the best family-freindly events going on in the area.  We're looking for things that are fun, close-by and cheap. High School Art Show Where/When: Chester County Art Association, May 10-14 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Why Go: Chester County Art Association hosts their High School Art Show, showcasing the work of students throughout the county. The show, which is curated by art teachers, runs May 7-14; the gallery is closed on Sunday and Monday.
