Letter to the Editor: Block Grant Program Puts Power in Commissioners' Hands

Proposed Pennsylvania block grant program will allow commissioners to effectively use funds

The following was written by Chester County Commissioners Terence Farrell and Ryan Costello. During Governor Tom Corbett’s recent budget address, he suggested a change in the way funds for human services are distributed and allowed to be utilized by county commissioners. As Chester County Commissioners, we endorse this concept and urge the Pennsylvania legislature to include block grant funding when the Commonwealth’s budget is finalized. County Commissioners Respond to Recorder of Deeds Candidate

County Commissioners say the problem should be fixed by Oct. 7.

During Wednesday's Chester County Commissioner's Sunshine Meeting, Recorder of Deeds candidate Russ Phifer accused County Commissioner's Ryan Costello and Terrence Farrell of supporting a program that allows users to access the County's search database for free. The press release goes on to say that Phifer estimated that as many as 30,000 unbilled searches have been made under this "program" per month and as many as 3.5 million …

Letter to the Editor from the Chester County Commissioners

Ryan Costello talks about Hurricane Irene's impacts on Chester County.

Hurricane Irene battered Chester County for 2 days, placing many in peril. About 7 inches of rain fell, high winds whipped through the county, streams and rivers flooded, roads were closed and thousands of residents lost electric, in some cases for days. The well-being of many residents was placed at risk because of the fury of the storm. Now is the time to thank the many emergency services workers, fire and police department members and other community-minded individuals for their brave efforts. The Chester County Emergency Operations Center was opened for 40 hours to coordinate response efforts during Hurricane Irene.  Representatives from the Chester County Health Department, Pennsylvania National Guard, PECO, PennDOT, and the Red Cross…
