The following is a press relase from the West Chester Area School District. At the National Science Olympiad Competition held in Florida, Bayard Rustin placed 14th overall competing against schools from across the nation. The team was honored with the Spirit Award, sponsored by Lockheed Martin, and presented to one high school team each year in recognition of the team's positive attitude, exemplification of teamwork, respect for rules and fellow competitors, and sportsmanlike conduct. A judge set former Rustin swim coach Kenneth Fuller's bail at $250,000. His preliminary hearing is set for May 22.
Former Rustin swim coach Kenneth Fuller was arraigned Wednesday on charges including institutional sexual assault after he had sex with a female minor high school student. Magesterial District Judge Daniel Maisano set Fuller's bail at $250,000. Fuller could not post bail and was sent to Chester County Prison where he awaits trial. Fuller was arrested Wednesday after it came to light that he had sex with a female member of his team on at least three separate occasions between April 27 and May 5. Besides three counts of institutional sexual assault, Fuller has also been charged with corruption of minors, furnishing alcohol to a minor and endangering the welfare of children. Fuller had been a coach with the district since the 09-10 season. …

Rustin High School swim coach Kenneth Fuller is accused of having sex with a female student at the high school.
Rustin High School swim coach Kenneth Fuller was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting an underage student, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office. West Chester Area School District Superintendent Dr. Jim Scanlon said in a statement released Wednesday: "I am very sorry to inform you that Rustin High School Boys and Girls Swimming Coach Ken Fuller was arrested this afternoon for allegations of committing Institutional Sexual Assault, Corruption of a Minor and related charges according to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office." The Bayard Rustin High School Science Olympiad team will be one of two high schools representing the state of Pennsylvania at the Science Olympiad National Tournament to be held in Florida on May 18 and 19. A first for Rustin High School, the team achieved this honor by placing second at the Science Olympiad State Final Competition behind Harriton High School of Montgomery County. It has been sixteen years since a WCASD school attended this prestigious national event. Science Olympiad, which began 28 years ago by a group of science teachers, is now one of the most prestigious science competitions in the nation, providing rigorous challenges to nearly 6,400 teams in the nation. These are the athletes of the week ending April 17.
The Ches-Mont League has named two West Chester standouts as athletes of the week. Henderson lacrosse player, Owne Evans, earned the honor after he scored the winning goal with 12.5 second left in 7-6 victory over Ridley on April 4. Rustin baseball player, Kevin Jewitt, also made the cut after he picked up his 100th career hit (home run) on April 4, in a 12-3 win over Oxford. PIAA District 1 has released the brackets for the opening round of the playoffs
PIAA District 1 released its bracket for playoffs last night for both girls and boys first round matchups. On the boys side, both West Chester Henderson and West Chester East qualified for playoffs. In the first round, 29-seed East will take on the four seed, Central Bucks West. That game will take place Friday, Feb. 17 at Central Bucks at 8 p.m. The West Chester Henderson Warriors were named the 23-seed, and they will play 10-seed Souderton at Souderton on Friday at 7 p.m. On the girls side, West Chester Rustin earned the 20-seed and will face 13-seed Abington on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Abington at 1 p.m. For the complete boys bracket please click the link: here, and for the girls bracket please click the link: here

The following is a press release from the West Chester Area School District. Twelve district seniors have been named finalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program - four from East, four from B. Reed Henderson, and four from Bayard Rustin. These students were among the approximately 15,000 top scoring students nationwide in the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSWT), which they took as juniors last year. In order to become finalists in this prestigious program, students are required to back up their PSAT/NMSQT scores with high scores in the Scholastic Assessment Tests (SATs), have a record of consistently high academic performance in all courses taken in grades nine through …

The Golden Knights fell to the Spring-Ford Rams 33-31.
With a berth in the state tournament on the line, the Spring-Ford wrestling team defeated West Chester Rustin High School 33-31 in a District 1 AAA consolation semi-final Saturday afternoon. Spring-Ford will now face a tough Council Rock North High School squad for third place, but has already punched their ticket to the PIAA tournament. In the gym of host Upper Dublin High School, the two teams would prove to be evenly matched. The teams would trade pins at 113 and 120 pounds, before WC Rustin would take a 13-6 lead courtesy a 12-3 major decision by 126-pounder Evan Harkins and a 6-3 decision by 132-pounder Steve Quinn.
