Henderson Comeback Falls Short in Semis

Octorara tops Warriors, 66-61; Coatesville beats Great Valley

OXFORD-- On most nights this season, when the Henderson High School basketball team scored 60-plus points, it was good enough to win.  The Warriors turned in that kind of quality performance Saturday night but it was not quite sufficient against 19-3, Ches-Mont American Division Champion Octorara in the league’s “Final Four” semifinals at Oxford High School. The Warriors lost, 66-61, in a rough and tumble, shootout-type contest during which they had to rebound from an 18-point third-quarter deficit to give themselves a chance in the final two minutes.  They didn’t make it all the way back but now can pull positives from a solid performance heading  into the District I tournament beginning Friday night, Feb. 17, at the homecourt of a higher…

Good point sergei. Rustin opened in 2006 and surely took talent from Henderson. West Chester has 3 High Schools. Coatesville has one. West Chester player talent is spit among three teams. Coatesville player talent is all on one team. If you took the best players from each of the West Chester High School teams and put them on one West Chester consolidated basketball team, you surely would have a …   more ›

Twins Help Henderson Survive Shanahan, 63-61

Key league win lifts Warriors to 11-6 overall.

As the Henderson High School basketball team hits the home stretch these next three weeks, the focus is on elongating a season and defining its success with post-season opportunities.  The Warriors have their eye on the Ches-Mont Final Four and the District I Tournament but there is no margin for error at this late date. That’s why Tuesday night’s 63-61 homecourt victory over Bishop Shanahan was one of those welcome cases of survival and relief.  It could have gone the other way and that would have been a loss that had consequences. “We can’t afford to lose any more games,” offered Henderson coach Chris Bruno after his team moved to 6-2 with the Ches-Mont National Division win and 11-6 overall.  “When we needed a stop we got the stop.  A …

Successful Mr. Henderson Competition Raises Charity Funds

In what has become a school tradition, the Mr. Henderson competition was another success Wednesday night and even managed to raise money for a local cancer charity.

Beauty pageants aren’t just for girls. Henderson High School hosted “Mr. Henderson,” a beauty title of sorts being fought over by ten male Henderson seniors, Wednesday night in the school’s main auditorium. Contestants paraded in formal wear, displayed talents and answered the panel’s questions, each with a more-often-than-not humorous spin. The 10 senior-class participants were voted into the competition by their peers. The Mr. Henderson competition was put on as a senior project by Rachel Gadbow and Molly Twohig. Teacher Cathy Logothetis acted as advisor to the two girls and helped the pair put on the show that has now become a yearly tradition. More than 750 people, many of whom were students, packed the Henderson auditorium to standing…

Henderson Wins Penncrest Tourney Title

Warriors clinch holiday tournament title with a 35-31 victory over Penncrest.

MEDIA – Now that the high school basketball season is one month old, opposing teams know what they’re dealing with when Henderson comes to town.  The Warriors want to run and they want to attack the rim. In the championship game of the Penncrest Holiday Tournament Thursday night, the hosts had the skill and patience to force Henderson into a different kind of game but the Warriors demonstrated an admirable patience of their own in securing a 35-31 victory to win the late December affair for the second year in a row. The successful culmination of the season-opening series of eight road games finally sends Henderson back to West Chester Tuesday night for the 2011-12 season’s first home game, a 7:30 start against Ches-Mont National Division …

Henderson's Season Ends Abrubtly with loss to Downingtown East

Henderson loses the rematch, 28-17.

From the jubilation of a Ches-Mont championship to the sting of a first-round, home-field playoff loss, the Henderson High School football season jerked to a close Friday night, ending a seven-day stretch that was a reflection of the exciting and memorable  2011 campaign. The Warriors lost their District I AAAA playoff game to Downingtown East, 28-17, before a boisterous crowd at J. Oscar Dicks Stadium, unable to knock off the vaunted Cougars in consecutive weeks.  Henderson had dominated Downingtown East in the second half enroute to a 42-20 victory one week earlier to win the league National Division title and achieve its most important pre-season objective.  One week later, that edge was gone and Downingtown East’s sharp and intense …
