Young artists to be featured at 38th annual Chester County High School Art Show

All three West Chester High Schools will be represented.

Nearly 500 works of art will be on display at the 2012 Chester County High School Art Show. The week long show will officially kick off on Saturday, April 14, at the Chester County Art Association located at 100 North Bradford Avenue in West Chester. The 38th annual Chester County High School Art Show will begin on Saturday, April 14, and will be open to the public Tuesday, April 17, through Saturday, April 21, from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. “The show itself will feature the talents of hundreds of young artists from high schools across Chester County,” said Jennifer Shealy, Special Events Coordinator for the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU). “The event is an exciting opportunity for our future artists to display their work in a real…

Third Annual Chester County Studio Tour This Weekend

The event will feature works of local artists on Saturday and Sunday.

Enjoy live music, art displays and a book signing at the Third Annual Chester County Studio Tour.  At this free studio tour, visitors get the chance see the work of  12 distinctly different artists  - from “pop” artists to traditional landscape painters – who are gathering this weekend at two locations.   This is a chance to purchase the art work of some of Chester County’s best known artists – all without gallery commissions.  Catherine Quillman, author of the newly released book, 100 Artists of the Brandywine Valley, will sign copies of her book, which showcases several of the studio tour artists. Try something different this weekend

Here are some things going on this weekend that might be outside the normal Friday and Saturday routine that might be worth checking out.

Friday, Jan. 7 The Serpentine Art Gallery is opening an exhibit featuring the works of artist Tom Bostelle.  Bostelle rose to prominence in the '50s and '60s before withdrawing from the mainstream art world to his Pocopson studio.  Bostelle worked mainly with oils on plywood, paper and canvas.  Titled "Beyond the Shadows," the exhibit will feature works that highlight Bostelle's attempt to capture shadows "stretched, overlapped, broken free from the people and animals who cast them."  According to Bostelle's website this was his way "of encapsulating human emotion in its purest form."  The opening reception runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Spotted Atrocious will bring its brand of indie-infused rock to The Note.  Currently living in …
