A two-vehicle accident Friday night on Route 202 critically injured a motorcyclist and prompted drunken-driving charges against a pickup truck driver, Westtown-East Goshen police say. At 10:28 p.m., police responded to Route 202 and Stanton Avenue in Westtown Township. Investigators believe the 24-year-old motorcyclist from Chesterbrook was riding north on 202 when a 49-year-old West Chester man driving his Dodge Ram pickup truck south turned left toward Stanton, into the motorcycle's path. The two vehicles collided. Good Fellowship Ambulance and Medic 91 transported the motorcyclist—who had been wearing a helmet—to Paoli Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said. The department will collect unused prescription drugs at Giant on Saturday.
Unused prescription drugs, the kind that might be sitting in your medicine cabinet as you read this, have come to be viewed by law enforcement as a liability. On Saturday, you can do something about it. According to chief William Cahill, the Westtown-East Goshen Police Department will once again participate in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back program. The collection will be held Saturday at the Giant Food Store at 1375 East Boot Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. "This is a great opportunity to safely discard of unwanted, expired medications and prescription drugs," Cahill said in a press release accompanying the announcement. The students will get a first hand look at the tragic consequences of drunk driving.
Show, don’t tell, is advice most writers have gotten at one point or another. On Friday, Westtown-East Goshen Police will put this advice in action. The department is holding a mock crash at Rustin Senior High School to give students a first hand, and violent, demonstration of what the consequences of drunk or distracted driving can be. With prom season around the corner, the demonstration will be timely as well as sobering. According to the department: The purpose of the mock crash is to give junior and senior age students, those approximately 16-18 years old a firsthand look at the potential tragedy that could result from impaired and distracted driving. A 31-year-old Berwyn man was arrested on Wednesday after Westtown-East Goshen Police say he was involved in a pair of hit-and-run incidents in West Goshen Township. On Wednesday at 1:06 p.m., Westtown-East Goshen Police responded to the area of Paoli Pike in East Goshen Township after they received a tip that a black Nissan X-Terra that was wanted for a hit and run accident in West Goshen Township was in the area. The accident occurred on Paoli Pike at Ellis Lane. While searching for the X-Terra, at 1:11 pm., police say they received a report of a separate accident on North Chester Road near Highland Avenue in East Goshen Township. A Westtown Township family was the victim of a recent telephone scam carried out by two men posing as members of the FBI, according to Westtown-East Goshen Police. On Thursday, a resident of Westtown Township told police that between March 26 and March 27 his family received telephone calls from two men who identified themselves as representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Police say the men told the eventual victims that they had not paid enough income tax to the Internal Revenue Service. The first caller threatened arrest if the man did not make a payment immediately. The victim and his wife were directed to go and purchase Green Dot Pre-paid debit cards, police say.
