Borough to Continue Security Patrols

The West Chester Borough Public Safety Committee votes to move forward with continuing private security patrols in the neighborhoods surrounding West Chester University.

The West Chester Public Safety Committee voted to continue the private security patrols that started out as pilot program last March through 2013. Last March the borough hired ELPS Private Detective Agency to patrol neighborhoods around West Chester University, particularly South Walnut Street,  as a way to deter students from getting too rowdy on weekend nights West Chester University pays for the entire cost of the program. Borough Looks to Begin Police Talks with Thornbury Township

The West Chester Borough Public Safety Committee recommends that the borough begin a preliminary discussion.

The West Chester Borough Public Safety Committee made a 3-0 recommendation to begin preliminary talks about contracting with Thornbury Township for police services. “We’re only discussing starting the discussion,” said committee chair and borough council member Jordan Norley.  “I’m in favor of having the discussion, but it doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll agree to provide police services.” Thornbury Township recently rejected an offer from the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department for police services. The Westtown-East Goshen Police Department wanted to put more of the cost burden on Thornbury Township should an officer be injured on the job. I live in East Bradford and it is a rare day when you see a patrol car in any neighborhood here, people speed all the time. It amazing that West Chester is considering covering yet another neighborhood, presumably just as poorly.   more ›

Publice Safety to Receive Security Patrol Update

The West Chester Public Safety Committee will hear an update on the private security patrol.

Tuesday night is part two of the borough council committee slate.  Public Safety, Zoning and Finance will meet starting at 5:30 p.m.  Here are the agenda highlights. Public Safety: The Public Safety Committee will hear an update on the private security patrols that walk the university neighborhoods on weekend nights.  The borough instituted the program in March, and it ran through May.  The borough needs to decide if they want to institute the program full-time starting in September. Finance: The committee will discuss paying for a redesign of the borough's Web site.
