PA Turnpike Operating Under Weather Emergency

Do not pass turnpike plow trucks or service vehicles, warns the turnpike commission.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advised motorists Friday afternoon that the turnpike is under a Weather Emergency from the Ohio connection to the new Route 29 interchange in East Whiteland:   The weather emergency advisory started in the western portion of the state and has spread east. Watch the travel advisories in the top-right portion of the turnpike commission website for additional developments.

State Police Seek Help with 1968 Murder

A 20-year-old Marine was found dead in a car on a Chester County stretch of the PA Turnpike, stabbed once in the heart. Investigators are still piecing together what happened.

Editor's note: The following information comes from the Pennsylvania State Police. Harrisburg – The Pennsylvania State Police is looking for information on an unsolved case, which involved the murder of United States Marine Corps Cpl. Robert Daniel Corriveau.  He was discovered deceased along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Chester County, Pennsylvania about 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia.   On November 18, 1968, a Pennsylvania State Trooper, while on routine turnpike patrol, spotted a man in a seated position alongside the highway about a mile east of the Downingtown interchange. The trooper stopped to check on the man and found that he was deceased.  An autopsy determined that the victim had been stabbed once through the heart. He …

Take Our Poll: 70 mph Speed Limit on Turnpike?

State lawmakers might raise the Pennsylvania Turnpike speed limit to 70 miles per hour. Do you support the move?

State lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow the Turnpike Commission to raise the Pennsylvania Turnpike speed limit to 70 miles per hour. The House Transportation Committee recently approved the measure, which would affect sections of both the Northeast Extension and the rest of the turnpike. Supporters of the measure say the change makes sense because vehicles are safer and the turnpike is wider, flatter and straighter thanks to road improvements. There is no timetable for when - or if  - the bill will come to a vote. Turnpike officials say the speed limit change would not be made without additional study and would apply only to some portions of the road. Do you think the speed limit should be raised? In reference to your stand your ground comment, if someone shot the person that looked like a star of the movie airing we would not be reading the depressing news of colorado daily when we log our internet on, plus 12 people would be here still enjoying life and the few dozen would not be in the hospital recovering, like they are.   more ›
