Tori Dugan Named PSAC Athlete Of Year In Women's Lacrosse

Five Golden Rams named to all-league squads.

The following is a press release from the West Chester University Athletic Department. West Chester junior attacker Tori Dugan was named PSAC Women’s Lacrosse athlete of the year it was announced by that organization in its annual all-league postseason awards Wednesday morning.   West Chester landed five players on the three all-league squads, including Dugan and teammate Theresa Giunta being named first team recipients. Dugan was a second-team pick in 2011 while Giunta makes her first appearance on any all-league team. Junior Jamie Dolan and senior Erin Oczkowski were each named to the second team squad with each making their initial appearance on the PSAC all-league team. West Chester Wins PSAC Title

The Golden Rams baseball team defeats Kutztown to win title.

The following is a press release from the West Chester University Athletic Department. Conor Kerins and Kyle Weary combined on a two-hit shutout and Josh Heyne tripled and homered as West Chester won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament championship with a 10-0 victory over rival Kutztown at Pullman Park Saturday afternoon.   West Chester (38-10) came out of the loser’s bracket and won four straight games over the last two days to claim its seventh conference crown and first since 2009. The win also avenged a 4-2 loss to Kutztown on Thursday in the second round of the PSAC Tournament. Baer Single In 10th Keeps West Chester's Hopes Alive

With the win, West Chester (36-10) advances to a rematch with Shippensburg (32-30) at 10 a.m.

The following is a press release from the West Chester University Athletic Department. Matt Baer drove an 0-2 pitch to the right field wall with one out and runners on the corners in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving West Chester a come-from-behind, 5-4, victory over Shippensburg inside Pullman Park at the 2012 PSAC Baseball Tournament Friday night.   With the win, West Chester (36-10) advances to Saturday and a rematch with Shippensburg (32-30) at 10 a.m. in an elimination game.  The Golden Rams faced elimination twice on Friday and came through with a pair of wins to keep their hopes for a conference title alive. No. 13 West Chester Staves Off Elimination With Morning Win

The following is a press release from the West Chester University Athletic Department. West Chester University hammered four Slippery Rock pitchers for 15 runs on 16 hits in a 15-6 victory in an elimination game at the 2012 PSAC Baseball Tournament inside Pullman Park on Friday morning.   Thirteenth-ranked West Chester (35-10) moves on to play Shippensburg at 3:30 p.m. in the next round. The Raiders are still unbeaten in the tournament. If West Chester wins, they move on to Saturday while a loss will end the Golden Rams’ bid for the conference title.   Jack Provine led the way offensively with a 4-for-5 showing at the plate. Kutztown Comes From Behind To Defeat No. 13 West Chester, 4-2

West Chester drops into the losers' bracket and will play Slippery Rock on Saturday.

Kutztown’s Matt Albaugh hit a pinch-hit three-run home run in the sixth inning as the Golden Bears came from behind to defeat No. 13 West Chester, 4-2, in the second round of the 2012 PSAC Baseball Tournament inside Pullman Park Thursday afternoon.   West Chester (34-10) drops into the loser’s bracket with the setback and will play Slippery Rock in an elimination game Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. A win in that game would mean the Golden Rams have to come back and play in another elimination game at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.   Kutztown (34-15) advances to Friday where it plays one game at 6:30 p.m., which guarantees that the Bears, who have not yet lost in the double-elimination tournament, will be playing on Saturday.   Rams starter Joe…

Lehman Pitches West Chester To First Round Win In PSAC Tournament

West Chester University senior right-handed pitcher Jordan Lehmen pitched a complete game, five-hitter in leading the 13th-ranked Golden Rams to a 4-1 victory over Slippery Rock University in the first round of the 2012 PSAC Baseball Tournament at Pullman Park Wednesday afternoon.   West Chester (34-9) advances into the winners bracket and will play Kutztown (33-15) at 3:30 p.m. The Bears defeated Gannon, 5-4, in the first game in the morning.    Senior shortstop Josh Heyne went 2-for-2 with one RBI, and second baseman Joe Wendle went 2-for-3 with one RBI as well.  The Golden Rams received an outstanding performance by Lehman on the hill. No. 8 WCU Ends With Win Over Kutztown

The Golden Rams end the season on a high note as they ready for the post-season.

Tori Dugan scored four goals and Jacki Patterson added a hat trick as visiting West Chester topped homestanding Kutztown, 17-3, in the PSAC women’s lacrosse regular-season finale Thursday afternoon at Keystone Field.   West Chester (14-2, 9-2 PSAC) finishes the regular season in a tie for first place, following Lock Haven’s loss to Indiana (Pa.) on Thursday. Lock Haven will be the top seed in the upcoming postseason tournament by virtue of the Lady Eagles’ 12-9 win over West Chester head-to-head.   Both West Chester and Lock Haven receive a first-round bye in the 2012 PSAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. West Chester Falls For Second Time In PSAC Tournament

Mercyhurst scored three times in the top of the ninth to eliminate West Chester from the 2012 PSAC Tournament Wednesday afternoon.

Nicole Cruts hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh that highlighted a four-run rally and tied the game, sending it into extra innings. However, Mercyhurst scored three times in the top of the ninth to eliminate West Chester from the 2012 PSAC Tournament Wednesday afternoon.   West Chester (28-25) ends its season with the two losses on Wednesday in the conference tournament. Jamie Dolan sparked a seven-goal run late in the second half that fueled West Chester’s frantic come-from-behind 18-15 victory over fifth-ranked C.W. Post in a non-league women's lacrosse match at Vonnie Gros Field Tuesday afternoon.   The eighth-ranked Golden Rams (13-2) trailed the Pioneers (12-2), 12-8, with 21 minutes remaining when the Tori Dugan and Dolan took matters into their own hands.   West Chester won nine straight draw controls, seven secured by Dugan, and Dolan scored four goals during a 7-0 spurt in an eight-minute span as the Rams erased a five-goal deficit and took a 15-12 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining. Matt Baer Named PSAC East Player Of Week

West Chester University outfielder Matt Baer was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division athlete of the week it was announced by that organization Monday afternoon. Baer hit .533 (8-15) for the week with a 1.267 slg pct. His three-run home run in game one of a four-game series with Kutztown led to a 5-1 victory. He homered again in the final game of the series, leading West Chester to a win. His third home run of the week came against Wilmington (Del.) in the Bill Giles Invitational championship game played at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
