Former Rep. Bob Edgar served the 7th district for six terms in Congress.
Former Rep. Bob Edgar, who represented the Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District for six terms, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at his Virginia home. After Congress, the Democrat went on to to lead the National Council of Churches, and became president of Common Cause, a position he still held. Edgar grew up in Springfield and attended public schools, according Congress’ Biographical Directory. Fran was a 1948 graduate of Notre Dame Catholic High School. John Thomas Dolente, 60, son of Vincent Thomas and Margaret Mary Colnan Dolente, died on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his home in West Chester. After his education, he was employed by Louis Dolente and Sons Construction Company, where he was responsible for heavy equipment maintenance, and by Lewis Automotive of West Chester, where he served for over 25 years. Dr. William “Bill” H. Simon, D.O., 63, was called home to be with the Lord on December 14, 2012. Dr. Simon was born in Philadelphia, PA and was a resident of Springfield, Delaware County. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1967. He received his B.S. in Secondary Education from Cheyney University in 1972. He graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 1980. He earned his D.O. from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in 1996. He thencompleted his residency in Internal Medicine in 1999 through the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The former U.S. Senator fought a long battle with cancer.
Former U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter died Sunday, according to CNN, at age 82 in his Philadelphia home. Specter represented Pennsylvania in the Senate for 30 years. Specter started as a Democrat but switched to the Republican party before being elected to the U.S. Senate. The senator made headlines in 2009 when he switched to the Democratic Party. Specter announced his diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease in 2005. He underwent multiple treatments of chemotherapy and finally succumbed to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma Sunday. Sen. My husband and I were both patients of Dr. Simon and we wanted to send our thoughts and prayers to his family. We are so saddened by his passing. The time and care he took with us and the help he provided were immensely appreciated and made such a difference in our lives.
