The Rustin baseball team advanced to the second round of the District One playoffs after beating Central Bucks East 2-1 Monday behind pitcher Jack Fritz's complete-game effort and Kevin Jewitt's game-ending homer.
As soon as he made contact, Kevin Jewitt knew he just advanced his team to the second round of the District One playoffs. Jewitt connected on the first pitch in the bottom of the eighth and sent it screaming over the center field fence for a walk-off, extra-inning homer to lift the Rustin baseball team to a 2-1 win over Central Bucks East Monday afternoon in West Chester. The win sets up a date between the Golden Knights and Council Rock North Wednesday at Council Rock. “That was a heck of a ball game on all ends,” Rustin coach Brad Harkins said. “This is a game we needed to earn. Seeing our guys, backs against the wall, that was awesome.” Despite his extra-innings heroics, Jewitt was careful not to say he had won the game for his team. No…

West Chester Rustin overcame an early five-goal deficit, but a last-minute goal by Kelly Devlin lifted still-unbeaten Downingtown East, 15-14, Thursday in West Chester.
The Rustin girls lacrosse sideline was full of smiles and laughter, pats on the back and congratulations aplenty. Never mind that the team just lost on a final-minute goal. Rustin (2-3) came back from a five-goal deficit early and later scored three goals in the final 2:30, but the effort wasn’t enough as the Golden Knights fell to Downingtown East (6-0) Thursday morning in West Chester, 15-14. “I have to give the girls credit. They didn’t hang their heads,” Rustin coach Laura Capuano said. “They didn’t give up. They came back and fought for every goal, every ground ball, every defensive position. I’m very proud of them.” Capuano’s team had every reason to hang their heads early on Thursday. The Golden Knights dominated possession of the …

A big third quarter dooms the Hornets as the Golden Knights outscored Oxford, 35-10
West Chester Rustin proved to be too much for Oxford on Tuesday as the Golden Knights outscored the Hornets 35-10 in the third quarter, adding to their lead and eventually winning 83-40. Oxford played hard and tough in the first quarter. Led by senior Mike Vining's outside shooting, the Hornets traded baskets with the Golden Knights and by quarter's end Oxford trailed by just two, 15-13. To start the second quarter Rustin pounded the ball inside with its big men. The six foot six inch Anthony Nash and six foot four Cory Blake created match up problems for the Hornets and the Knights went on a 9-2 run. Still, Oxford's dead-eye free throw shooting kept the game competitive as the Hornets trailed by 12 at the half. It was in the third …
