Two-time national champion West Chester University landed four players on the 2012 Longstreth / National Field Hockey Coaches' Association Division II All-America squad it was announced Tuesday afternoon. Kristin Arnold, Kayla Gluchowski, Kelsi Lykens and Michele Schrift were all named to the top squad. West Chester (20-2) earned its second straight NCAA Division II national championship with a 5-0 victory over host UMass-Lowell in the title game on Sunday. Top-ranked West Chester University scored three goals in the first half and two more in the second half and successfully defended its NCAA Division II Field Hockey championship with a 5-0 shutout over host UMass-Lowell Sunday afternoon at Cushing Field. West Chester (20-2) tied the school’s single season record for wins while securing its second straight NCAA title and sixth national championship in program history. Bloomsburg’s Brooke Simonovich finished off a 2-on-1 break, tipping in a centering pass from Alexis Weber with 15 seconds left in the first overtime session, lifting No. 5 Huskies to a 3-2 victory over top-ranked West Chester Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Golden Rams to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC Eastern Division and into a conference tie with Bloomsburg (11-3, 5-1). West Chester University's women's field hockey squad captured the 2011 NCAA Division II national championship this past fall. However, the Golden Rams also proved themselves to be champions in the classroom with 16 players named to the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad. Three Golden Rams were recognized as four-year recipients of the national academic award. Brynn Adams, Leah Angstadt and Karly Herb were the three that have been named to the academic squad all four years in college. As a team, West Chester's cumulative grade-point average of 3.38 was tied for second highest in Division II with Kutztown University. Slippery Rock's 3.51 GPA was tops in Division II.
