Should DUI Alcohol Limit Be Lowered to .05 Percent?

The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.

One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. What do you think? Is the proposal reasonable? About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. Internationally, only a handful of countries, including Canada, the United States and England, have a BAC limit of .08 while most of the …

You can get a DUI for taking over the counter medication, or prescription drugs from your doctor. You can get a DUI on a bike, walking, or riding lawn mower. If your BAC is .08 you get a DUI, if it is .075 you get a DUI, the cops will hold you and or take you for blood so that your BAC will be higher as your body absorbs more alcohol. Driver Held for Trial In 202 Motorcycle Crash

Prosecutors say Robert Landis' blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit.

  Robert Elwood Landis, 49, has been ordered to stand trial for second degree homicide, manslaughter, DUI and multiple other charges related to a two vehicle accident that prosecutors say claimed the life of Liam Crowley of Chesterbrook, Tredyffrin Township. Crowley, who was 24, died two days after his motorcycle slammed into a pick-up truck in the northbound lanes of Wilmington Pike/Route 202 and East Stanton Road in Westtown Township. Judge tells Robert Landis 'this should have been done before' then sets bail at $1 million.

As Liam Crowley's devastated mother, father and girlfriend looked on Tuesday, District Court Judge William Kraut ordered Robert Elwood Landis held on $1 million cash bond in Crowley's death. Landis, who has five prior DUI convictions, is charged with multiple felony, misdemeanor and summary offenses in the death of 24-year-old Liam Crowley, of Chesterbrook, Tredyffrin Township. Crowley died after a pick-up truck that prosecutors said was driven by an intoxicated Landis struck his motorcycle on Route 202 in Westtown at about 10:30 p.m. on April 26. Homicide Charges Filed in Motorcycle Crash

The district attorney says drunken driving on Route 202 caused a 'senseless' death.

A 49-year-old West Chester man is facing homicide by vehicle charges following an accident on Route 202 that took the life of a motorcyclist in Westtown on April 26. Chester County District Attorney Thomas Hogan said Robert Elwood Landis was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.28 percent, more than three times the legal limit at the time of the crash which killed 24-year-old Liam Crowley of Chesterbrook in Tredyffrin Township. "Anybody who drives drunk is in danger of killing another person. Getting behind the wheel of a pickup truck at night on the highway with this much alcohol in your system is like firing 5,000 pound bullet into a crowd of people," Hogan said. Police: Drunken Driver Nearly Strikes Pedestrians  A 26-year-old Drexel Hill man was charged with DUI earlier this month after West Chester Police say he almost struck several pedestrians when he swerved onto a sidewalk in the borough. Man Slumped Over Wheel at Wawa Gets DUI, Police Say

West Goshen Police found the defendant in the store's parking lot at 3:41 a.m.

A 32-year-old West Chester man was charged with DUI in April after West Goshen Police say they found him slumped over the wheel of his car in a Wawa parking lot. On April 12 at 3:41 a.m., police were on patrol in the area of the Wawa convenience store located at 1195 Pottstown Pike, when they saw the defendant leaning over the steering wheel of his car. The man smelled like alcohol and consented to and failed a series of field sobriety tests, police say. He was charged with DUI and taken to Chester County Hospital to have blood drawn for testing.

Police Find Driver Asleep at the Wheel on 202

The driver was charged with DUI, according to Westtown-East Goshen Police.

Man Asleep at the Wheel on 202  On Sunday at 4:35 a.m., Westtown-East Goshen Police responded to the southbound lane of 202, approximately 50 north of the road’s intersection with 926 in Westtown Township, for a vehicle stopped in the left hand travel lane.  According to police, officers located a silver Pontiac Grand Am stopped in the lane and the driver asleep behind the steering wheel. Police woke the man, and upon doing so detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath, police say. Arrest, when mentioned, does not suggest conviction.  Man Theatens to Shoot Dog Walker, Dog A 42-year-old West Chester man was arrested on Thursday after police say he threatened to shoot a man and his dog. According to West Chester Police, at 9 p.m. the night of the crime, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Willow Alley for a reported disturbance. The victim told police that while he was in the alley, an unknown man threatened to shoot him and his dog, police say. Man Charged in East Nields St. Hit-and-Run

4 Arrested for Public Indecency in West Chester, Police Report

The arrests occurred between April 1 and April 7.

The West Chester Police Department says it made 29 arrests of individuals aged 18 to 25 from April 1 to April 7, according to Chief Scott Bohn. The arrests are reported as part of the borough's ongoing "Operation Vigilance" program.   Police said the arrests break down by the following offenses (some individuals were charged with more than one offense):
