School Board Releases Newest Contract Proposal

The newest proposal from the school board provides a $2,500 raise over the two years of the contract.

The following is a press release from the West Chester Area School Board. Hoping to overcome the gridlock that salary talks have yielded during the last nine months of contract negotiations, the West Chester Area School Board Negotiating Team has introduced a revised proposal which provides each teacher with a $2500 increase in pay over a two-year period. The new plan was presented to the West Chester Area Education Association (WCAEA) this evening during a 2-hour bargaining session. The newest salary proposal breaks down as follows:  Teachers who receive an “unsatisfactory” rating in any one year will receive no compensation increase. Teacher Negotiations Expected to Continue Through Summer

The current teacher contract is set to expire on June 29.

Both the teachers and the school board of the West Chester Area School District are in the midst of a new contract negotiation, and while both sides continue to talk, the current teacher's contract is set to expire on June 29. Earlier this week the school board released its set of proposals that included an almost four percent raise in the first two years of the contract followed by a $1,500 performance bonus in the third year. The proposal from the school board also included shared health insurance costs that would reduce the district's cost burden from 90 percent in the first year to 8 percent by the third year. WCASD School Board Approves Hiring Lead Negotiator

Teacher Contract Discussions to Include Experienced Negotiator for District

Editor's Note: The Following Information comes courtesy of the West Chester Area School District. The West Chester Area Board of School Directors voted on Monday night to approve the hiring of a lead contract negotiator. Jeffrey T. Sultanik, Esquire, of Fox Rothschild, L.L.P, has been selected to assist in the development of contract language and advise members of the School Board regarding other key elements of the upcoming teacher contract negotiations. West Chester would do well to watch what is happening in the Neshaminy School District when the board in that district took a decidedly anti teacher stand. Now that we have tea party types on the school board here (good job voters) that could well happen here.   more ›
