West Chester Woman Takes Vows as Franciscan Sister

Sister Sara answers a call to minister to those in need.

A West Chester woman has joined the order of Franciscan nuns taking her first vows as a Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia, CatholicPhilly.com reports.

According to the report, Sister Sara Marks took her vows on August 11 at Our Lady of Angels Convent, the congregation’s motherhouse in Aston, Delaware County.

Sister Sara holds a master’s degree in pastoral ministry from the University of Dayton and a bachelor’s degree in literature from West Chester University. She is also a graduate of West Chester East High School.

“I hope to be a witness through my own life to other young women,” Sister Sara is quoted as saying in the CathollicPhilly.com report.

She had been the campus minister for Neumann College in Delaware County and is moving to a new position as a case worker at the Ministry of Caring, a social services charity in Wilmington, Delaware.
