Annual Everhart Park Clean Up Happening Tomorrow

Friends of Everhart Park call on local volunteers for this annual beautification effort

Under sunny skies and mild temps, April 14, promises to be a beautiful day to spend at Everhart Park. If you're coming, bring your gardening gloves and be ready to get dirty: the Friends of Everhart Park will be conducting their annual clean up from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

While response has been encouraging, especially from Greek organizations within West Chester University, more helping hands are requested and welcomed to join the group's efforts. Friend of the park Herb Schwabe suggests gardening appropriate apparel, a pair of gardening gloves, and maybe a shovel or rake for those wishing to participate. "For the really ambitious, bring a wheelbarrow," Schwabe says with a chuckle.

Volunteers are welcome throughout the three hour clean up, although work assignments will be distributed at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers should meet at the green building on the West Union Street side of the park to get the run down on the day's agenda and their assignment.

The goals set for the day are to perform general clean up tasks, planting, mulching of the beds and playground areas, edging of beds and trash and leaf removal. All ages are encourged to attend. Families with small children can take turns playing on the playground with the little ones while the other works.

Pizza will be served for lunch. That alone may be enough to draw a crowd, but just in case, Friend Susan Frens adds "It turns out to be a lot of fun, and a nice way to meet people."
