Women's Basketball Falls To No. 11 Holy Family, 72-61

Senior Alexandra Lennon posted her second double-double of the season, but it was not enough for host West Chester to overcome No. 11 Holy Family, 72-61, in a non-league women’s basketball contest inside Hollinger Field House Sunday afternoon.

West Chester (5-4) trailed by just one point at the half. However, Holy Family (12-1) pulled away in the final 13 minutes to claim the victory.
 
Lennon made a layup with 27 seconds left in the first half to pull West Chester within one, 33-32, at the break. However, Holy Family went on an 11-2 run to start the second half and got out to a 10-point lead with 17 minutes to play. That advantage would expand to 13, before the Rams came roaring back with a run of its own to cut the deficit to five, 52-47, with 12 minutes to play. Brittany Powell (8 points) nailed a pair of 3-pointers, and Ambreelinne Ortman (9 points) knocked down one as well in the spurt.
 
The Golden Rams’ stingy defense held the Tigers to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes while the hosts shot it at 43.3 percent. However, the Tigers were much more accurate in the second half, shooting at a 47.8 percent clip.
 
Lennon’s double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) was the senior’s 17th of her career – highest among active players. Freshmen Brittany Sicinski and Jasmen Clark each added eight points to complement Lennon, Ortman and Powell.
 
Erin Mann led all scorers with 23 points for Holy Family. Ana Cruz added 13 and Mary Ellen McCollum had 11. Mann also finished with a double-double, pulling in 10 rebounds. Molly Hanlon dished out seven assists for the Tigers.
 
West Chester will be back in action on Friday when the Golden Rams take another trip out west to play Clarion on Jan. 4 and then Lock Haven on Jan. 5. Both games are 5:30 p.m. starts. The Rams do not return home until the following weekend (Jan. 11) against Mercyhurst.
