West Chester Softball Sweeps USciences

The Golden Rams win both games in a doubleheader.

The following is a press release from the athletic department.

Kim Begley went 3-for-4 with three RBI in game one as visiting West Chester swept a non-league softball doubleheader over University of Sciences Monday afternoon.

West Chester (26-23) took game one in five innings by a score of 11-1 while taking game two, 4-2.

Both Begley and Kelly Anderson registered three RBI in the opener as West Chester plated four runs in each of the first two innings to jump in front 8-1. That was all starter Devon Utterback (13-11), who pitched a complete-game, four-hitter, allowing one run, one walk and striking out two.

The top three hitters in the Golden Rams’ order went 6-for-9 with six RBI and six runs scored. Jillian Murray was 2-for-3, and J.P. Norris was 2-for-2.

In the nightcap, West Chester scored three goals in the second and one insurance tally in the seventh to complete the sweep over USciences (14-18). Begley went 1-for-4 with another run batted in. Charlotte Conaway went 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored.

Kim Murl (14-9) pitched 5.2 innings, scattering seven hits, walking one and striking out eight. Kate Skokowski came on to earn her second save of the season. Melissa Spinosa stole a pair of bases as well.
