West Chester Men Top Clarion, 78-66

Sophomore Corey Blake scored 17 points, and senior Carl Johnson added 15 points, as visiting West Chester topped host Clarion, 78-66.

Sophomore Corey Blake scored 17 points, and senior Carl Johnson added 15 points, as visiting West Chester topped host Clarion, 78-66, inside Tippin Gym in a PSAC men’s basketball contest Friday night.
 
West Chester (6-4, 4-2 PSAC) has now won three of its last four games while Clarion (3-6, 2-4) has dropped three of its last four.
 
The Golden Rams were red hot from the field all evening, shooting the ball at a 47.5 percent clip, including 56 percent (14 of 25) in the second half. West Chester put four players in double figures, including three starters. Senior guard Jon Breeden added 12 points for the Rams, while Troy Hockaday contributed 13 points off the bench.
 
West Chester went on a 21-7 run to open the second half and bulge a two-point halftime lead (37-35) to 58-42 with 11:39 remaining. Clarion made a late run at the Rams, closing to 68-62 with 2:34 to go. However, the visitors went on another 10-4 spurt to close out the game in strong fashion.
 
Clarion’s Calvin Edwards scored a game-high 26 points for the hosts. Aaron Johnson had 10 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.
 
West Chester’s road trip continues on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at Lock Haven.
