West Chester Drops Doubleheader At Shippensburg

The softball teams loses two to the Raiders.

Kelly Anderson homered in the first inning of game one and West Chester allowed the winning run to cross in the bottom of the seventh of game two as host Shippensburg picked up a pair of 2-1 wins to sweep a PSAC East softball doubleheader on Tuesday.
 
West Chester (19-18, 2-6 PSAC East) has now dropped five of its six conference losses by one run. Shippensburg (11-17, 3-3) moved into a tie for second place in the standings with East Stroudsburg with the pair of wins.
 
Shippensburg banged out 18 hits in the doubleheader to West Chester’s nine.
 
The Raiders Tyler Weisman singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh with one out that broke a 1-1 tie.
 
Devon Utterback (8-10) suffered the loss inside the circle in game two. She allowed two runs on 10 hits while striking out two. In the opener, Kate Skokowski (5-3) surrendered two runs on eight hits in the loss.
 
Kelly Anderson hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning. However, Shippensburg scratched runs across in the second and fourth, before turning things over to Emily Estep who pitched a three-hitter.
 
Nicole Cruts led off the top of the seventh with a double, but pinch-runner Brianna Rowlands was stranded there as Estep struck out the side to end the game.
 
West Chester travels to Holy Family on Thursday for a non-league doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. with the Tigers.
