WCU LB Named All-American

The Associated Press names West Chester University linebacker Ronell Williams to its all-american team.

The following is a press release from the West Chester University Athletic Department.

Sophomore LB Ronell Williams keeps raking in the postseason accolades for his performance on the gridiron this past fall. West Chester’s starting middle linebacker was recently named to the 2012 Little AP All-America first team it was announced by that organization Thursday.

Much like the American Football Coaches’ Association (AFCA) Division II All-America team, Williams is the only sophomore on the first or second team offense or defense. Three sophomores appear on the third team.

The Associated Press Little All-America team honors players from Division II, III and NAIA.

Williams is the first West Chester University football player to earn "Little All-America" honors from the Associated Press since WR Mike Washington was a second-team pick in 2008. He is the first linebacker to earn All-America plaudits from the AP since Lateef Ferguson was a second-team selection in both 2006 and 2007.

Williams led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in tackles this fall with 119. He ranked 11th in Division II in tackles, and his three interceptions ranked fourth in the country among linebackers at the Division II level. Williams registered seven tackles for a loss, forced a fumble, broke up one pass, was credited with a QB hurry and posted 1.5 sacks on the year as well. The Golden Rams’ middle linebacker has been named first team All-PSAC East, first team All Super Region 1 and AFCA All-America already this postseason.

The Golden Rams finished 7-4 on the season and in third place in the PSAC Eastern Division standings.
