Report: Henderson Hires New Football Coach

Steve Mitten will replace the retiring Joe Walsh.

The Daily Local reports that Henderson High School has named Steve Mitten the replacement football coach for retiring Joe Walsh.

"I want to make it perfectly clear that Steve Mitten is the new head coach at Henderson because he deserves it,” Henderson athletic director Ken McCormick told the Daily Local. “The selection committee felt he was the perfect fit for our program."

According to the Daily Local, Mitten played under Walsh for Henderson and served as an assistant coach for the Warriors since 2003.

Mitten spoke to the Daily Local about the honor at tradition he feels and hopes to continue for the program:

“As far as being only the third head coach since 1969, I think it says a little bit about the administration at Henderson and the wonderful people here. To be included with men like Mike Hancock and Joe Walsh is an honor. And I feel I am privileged to be mentored by someone like Joe Walsh. The three outright Ches-Mont League titles in the last nine years only scratches the surface of the type of coach and man he is. The true testament is the number of former players who have come back to add to the program as coaches, volunteers or fans.”
