No. 8 WCU Ends With Win Over Kutztown

The Golden Rams end the season on a high note as they ready for the post-season.

The following is a press release from the West Chester University Athletic Department.

Tori Dugan scored four goals and Jacki Patterson added a hat trick as visiting West Chester topped homestanding Kutztown, 17-3, in the PSAC women’s lacrosse regular-season finale Thursday afternoon at Keystone Field.

West Chester (14-2, 9-2 PSAC) finishes the regular season in a tie for first place, following Lock Haven’s loss to Indiana (Pa.) on Thursday. Lock Haven will be the top seed in the upcoming postseason tournament by virtue of the Lady Eagles’ 12-9 win over West Chester head-to-head.

Both West Chester and Lock Haven receive a first-round bye in the 2012 PSAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. They both advance to the semifinals next Friday, May 4 at Lock Haven. West Chester and Lock Haven have played for the conference title in each of the last six seasons.

The Golden Rams scored the game’s first six goals en route to running out to an 8-3 lead by halftime. West Chester then outscored Kutztown, 9-0, in the second half.

Dugan finished with five points and nine draw controls. She has 44 goals and 78 points this spring. Her 115 draw controls on the year are believed to be a single-season school record. Draw controls have only been an official NCAA statistic since 2007.

Erin Oczkowski, Stacey Pellechia and Jacqui Burke each scored two goals for the Golden Rams.

Jess Henderson (14-2) played 51 minutes and registered six saves. Kelsey Sward played the remaining nine minutes, recording one save.

West Chester now waits until Saturday to find out who will be the remaining two participants in the postseason. Gannon and Mercyhurst have locked up two of the remaining four spots. IUP, Bloomsburg and Slippery Rock are still alive heading into the final day of the regular season on Saturday.
