No. 23 West Chester Rallies To Defeat Wilmington, 13-5

The Golden Rams continue to roll.

No. 23 West Chester scored three runs in the sixth, five in the seventh and two more in the eighth to come from behind and defeat Wilmington (Del.), 13-5, in a non-league baseball contest at Serpico Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Jordan Wlodarczyk’s RBI double and Reid Pulford’s sacrifice fly  in the sixth gave West Chester (16-1) a 5-4 advantage while Matt Baer’s three-run home run highlighted the seventh inning rally and put the Golden Rams in control 8-4. Wilmington (11-7) had taken a brief 4-3 lead on a pair of runs in both the third and fifth.

Wlodarczyk was 3-for-3 with two RBI and reached base safely in all five trips to the plate. His double in the sixth scored Chris Pula, and his single in the seventh plated Joe Wendle, who was intentionally walked.

Wendle helped West Chester get out to an early 3-0 lead with a triple to right-center in the bottom of the first that scored Jack Provine, who went 4-for-5 on the day. Wendle would score on a single up the middle by Justin Lamborn. Josh Heyne led off the second with a home run down the left field line.

Matt McAllister started and lasted 4.2 innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out four. He cruised through the first four frames until running into trouble in the fifth. Dylan Porter (1-0) came on with two outs and bases loaded to get McAllister and the hosts out of the jam. Porter threw the next two innings without giving up a run and allowing the Rams to mount their comeback. Jordan Lehman finished up the final two innings, yielding one run on one hit.

All nine starters in West Chester’s lineup had a hit as West Chester pounded out 16 hits. Baer finished 2-for-5 with four RBI, including his third home run of the season. Pula and Wlodarczyk each posted a pair of RBI.

West Chester is off until next Wednesday when it hosts University of the Sciences at Serpico Stadium.
