Millersville Baseball Sweeps West Chester; Takes Season Series

The Golden Rams lose two more to Millersville.

Host West Chester University was swept in a doubleheader by Millersville University Saturday afternoon at Serpico Stadium by scores of 12-6 and 3-2.

West Chester (26-6, 11-5 PSAC East) has now lost five of its last six, after losing for the first time at Serpico this spring. Millersville (22-17, 10-10) evened its conference record with the sweep. The Marauders also took the season series from the Golden Rams, 3 games to 1.

Joe Wendle was 2-for-3 with a triple and his ninth home run of the season. His smash to right in the sixth inning of game two pulled West Chester within striking distance. Pinch-hitter Matt Baer doubled later in the frame, but was stranded on second base representing the tying run. Millersville's Tyler Horst (4) got out of that jam to pick up his fourth save of the year.

Jordan Wlodarczyk went 2-for-3 in the nightcap as well. Matt Kirchner scored West Chester's other run on a wild pitch during the fifth inning.

Dylan Porter (3-1) suffered the loss in game two. He started and lasted 6.1 innings, yielding three runs on nine hits. Dave Stieg (3-2) took the loss in the opener.

Reid Pulford went 2-for-3 with three RBI in game one. Josh Heyne was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Millersville scored a run in every inning except the first and third, including two in the fifth, four in the sixth and three more in the seventh. West Chester tried to put together a late rally by plating four runs in its final at bats, but could not get any closer than six.

West Chester takes on Wilmington (Del.) on Tuesday inside Citizens Bank Park in the championship game of the Bill Giles Classic. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
