Brynn Adams Named To National Indoor Field Hockey Team

The West Chester senior defender will compete for the United States.

The following is a press release from the West Chester Athletic Department.

West Chester University senior defender Brynn Adams was named to the 2012-13 USA Indoor Field Hockey squad it was announced Friday by that organization.

The national squad consists of 34 players, 11 of which are veterans, and will begin an extensive training schedule in preparation for the 2012 Pan-Am Championships Aug. 30 to Sept. 2 in Puerto Montt, Chile. Over 220 athletes competed for places on both the junior and senior squads. It was the largest indoor open tryout to date.

"I went into the tryout nervous, but coming off of the season we just had at West Chester, I knew I was more prepared than ever," Adams commented. "I have always wanted to play at the national level, and when I saw my name on the website, I was thrilled. I am excited to be able to represent West Chester at the national level and am looking forward to a great experience."

Adams was the foundation of West Chester's defense, helping the Golden Rams to the 2011 NCAA Division II national championship. Along the way, she was named the Division II national player of the year and defender of the year while earning first team All-America citations.

"We are so proud of Brynn for putting herself out there for the tryout," West Chester University head coach Amy Cohen beamed. "To have her become a part of WCU national team history is just where she should be."

Adams continues in a long line of former West Chester University field hockey stars, who have gone on to the national stage to showcase their talents. Current USA Indoor head coach Denise Zelenak is one of those former Golden Rams.

"The tryout was a very competitive event, with a large group of athletes showcasing their indoor talents," said Zelenak. "We are excited about the high quality of players selected and look forward to seeing them perform on the international stage."
