West Chester VOTE Sends Out Candidate Questionnaire

The organization that helped launched the massive school board write-in campaign last year sent out a questionnaire to the candidates running for state office this fall.

Last fall, West Chester VOTE mounted a massive write-in campaign for several school board candidates who were not on the ballot.

The organization's candidates garnered thousands of votes a won one seat on the current school board.

At the time, the organization made up primarily of district parents who were concerned about the direction the school district was going made a vow that they weren't done.

They promised to be a force in any election that involved the school district.

West Chester VOTE sent out a questionnaire to the candidates running for state office this November.

According to the organizatios website:

This summer, West Chester VOTE sent candidate questionnaires to all WCASD House of Representative and Senate candidates running for re-election this year, asking them to share their views on various public education issues.  We thank those candidates who took time from hectic campaign and work schedules to respond to our questionnaire and will continue to update as/if we received additional responses. Visit our homepage at www.westchestervote.org to view responses.  If your Senator or Representative did not yet respond, please encourage their participationThanks for your commitment to being a informed voter!

The questionnaire is attached to this story as a PDF in the picture box above.

West Chester Vote can not be trusted - they are teachers union shills - No one who is connected with the union should ever be a candidate for the school board. By the same token, no one who has a family member connected with the union or employed by the district should be considered as a candidate for the school board.
Howyalikethemapples? September 21, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Let the voters make up their own minds Star. Each candidate was provided an opportunity to respond and kudos to those that did. This survey is no different than the surveys provided by ACTION except that this one was focused on education and didn't ask about religious and personal views that have nothing to do with the office the candidates are seeking. Informed voters allowed to cast a ballot is what this is about and WCVOTE is just providing information, not telling you who to vote for. As for Mrs. Tiernan's place on the WCASD board, apparently several thousand people disagree with you! Keep religion out of politics and politics out of the school board!
Star Thrower September 22, 2012 at 01:34 AM
That's exactly the problem - union teachers prey on children to further their dogmatic assertion that public education is the new religion and teachers are the new priests. The WCASD elected school board has to be free to direct the education system without state-supported religious worship. "Shame on Unionists"
Cathy Binder September 22, 2012 at 10:07 AM
And your agenda sir? Clearly you have one too, but from your writings it is the only one people should agree with or support. Just because some of us disagree with you do not make us "union shillls" or subject to your caustic and demeaning statements. As an avid supporter of West Chester Vote I can tell you from the inside these are people made of very different stripes, many who work deep inside many parties and of a variety of political persuasions. What they have in common is that they care about the community - and a have a broader agenda. Yours quite honestly is very narrow. My perspective of course. Now, we can all look forward to the hate speech you will direct at me and any who support the work of West Chester Vote today.
RoxyD September 22, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Thank you West Chester VOTE for giving us this valuable tool to use to make a better informed decision at the polls in November! We need a lot of help in Harrisburg and we need to choose people that will make it a priority to stand up for public education!
RoxyD September 22, 2012 at 12:17 PM
In reference to the hateful person that has chosen this article as a bully-pulpit, please ignore this person! Whoever it is just looking for someone to take the bait. Don't give him/her the satisfaction.
Star Thrower September 22, 2012 at 01:13 PM
Binder, You are what is becoming very well known as a "Hate-Prophet" in the taxpayer's struggle to free themselves from the tentacles of the zombified public service unions, and your daily "Hate-Card" spiel is wearing out quickly - I personally LOVE teachers, but have absolutely zero respect for once compassionate people who band together and morph into "self-proclaimed" enlightened groups that insulate themselves, from those they have been commissioned by, to care for their children. It's very easy to talk the talk of community, but not so easy to walk the walk - as far as I can see, WC Vote is nothing but a public voice for the "self-proclaimed" unionist elite, and each day more taxpayers are becoming aware that they have a voice. as cyber schooling becomes the choice of the parents who want their kids to be free of government enforced propaganda that is killing America, they will take back the education system that has failed them miserably.
edufan September 22, 2012 at 05:12 PM
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the survey results from the candidates that chose to respond. Kudos to those that did take the time to repond! I am so looking forward to voting in the upcoming election.
Robin Kaliner September 23, 2012 at 09:03 PM
Really Star, we're "teachers union shills"? Well, I've been part of WCV from the beginning so please enlighten me on what you base this label on?The broken record of calling us union lovers and/or actually the union is getting old; I hope you have a new battle cry for 2013. If I was a "union lover" would I believe these things: PSERS should be eliminated & a defined contribution plan established; teachers should pay a larger % of their benefit costs; the steps of the teacher pay scale whereby teachers get a raise twice a year for sticking around another year plus increases to the overall schedule amounts are excessive; a portion of teacher pay should be merit based & should not be so heavily weighted on years of service & degree achieved; the district should not be paying as much for tuition reimbursement... Many of us are Republicans, but because we don't hold the extreme ideals of the Tea Party you have chosen to label us as liberals to try to confuse those voters who don't take the time to learn about the candidates. Just because we don't want our district's negotiations taken hostage by issues that should be fought at the state level does not mean that we have ties to the union. We just aren't as rude in making our points as you. Instead of just calling names, how about discussing some of the ISSUES? You're all hot air and insults and no substance. And how about a real name so we can understand what your motivations are and why we should listen to anything YOU say.
edufan September 23, 2012 at 10:28 PM
Robin, don't even bother. S...Thrower does not possess the respect for others' views. Hate and rude name calling behavior is the edict of this "person". This person's agenda is to incite anger with his/her progandist rhetoric. Like most hate spewing cowards, this person hides behind a moniker, and write vicious things about other people that he/she/it doesn't even know. Don't waste your time or intelligence on this person.
Big Papa September 24, 2012 at 12:12 AM
Robin thank you for your advocacy and for the good work here providing a forum for those seeking our votes to tell us a bit more about their priorities and beliefs. It is a shame that some of the candidates didn't respond, that says loads about their commitment to their possible future constituents. Keep up the great work and keep pressing our current and future elected officials to support strong public education.

RobinK - there is no broken record .. my machine is set on "Repeat Forever" West Chester Vote can not be trusted - they are teachers union shills - No one who is connected with the union should ever be a candidate for the school board. By the same token, no one who has a family member connected with the union or employed by the district should be considered as a candidate for the school board .. a school board member should never have the ability to vote on their own paycheck. ergo .. no group can recommend a union member for the school board, without negating the taxpayer's interest. Please show where have you seen that I care about republicans, or the tea party? I have never voted a straight ticket in over 30 years. Where have you seen that I have ever labeled you, or anyone else a liberal? I am probably more liberal than you. For all we know you make a living consulting for those who live off the private sector taxpayer.
Star Thrower September 24, 2012 at 12:53 PM
edufan, no, I do not respect your warped views on educating children with the 3 fingers of judgment lunatic propaganda - be my guest and please continue to prove my point of your unionist gang mentality, by using 3rd person insults .. your fear of direct confrontation is obvious.
Robin Kaliner September 24, 2012 at 01:11 PM
Boy, you really do sound more like Simon with your equal opportunity hatred; however Simon is so desperate for public attention that he wouldn't use a fake name, would he? I guess unless anyone believes exactly like you do then they are useless and it is your duty to insult them. So, then, repeat away...all I'm asking for is some basis to back up your rant--what exactly is it about West Chester VOTE that justifies your classification of us as not to be "trusted"? (and by the way, we don't expect people to just take us at our word--we provide information and we suggest that voters check out that information so that they can make informed choices--do you ever give facts, or just the same old sorry mantra that you can't back up?) Just because we may not agree with you? Where is this secret relationship with the teacher's union that you keep citing? All I want are some facts to back up your claims...shouldn't be that hard, should it?
Star Thrower September 24, 2012 at 02:14 PM
RK - do you realize that if I used a name like John Smith, you would never know the difference - nice to finally hear you admit you (like simon) are desperate for attention though. I don't see you complaining about the fake names of your buddies .. do you see the hypocrisy in your comment? you're getting more or less exactly like the parasitic fringe with the hate-card spiel - absolutely nothing I have posted can be considered hate worthy ... the only thing I am guilty of is posting about is the complete stupidity and utter greed of some of these union members and their mindless cheerleaders ... did you happen to read edufan's absurd ideology on the three fingers of judgment? --- is this is the type of teacher you allow to go unchallenged with a fake name, because it fulfills your desperate need for attention?
Robin Kaliner September 24, 2012 at 02:32 PM
Twist my words all you want. Somehow I doubt your name is John Smith. So sorry to make you feel ganged up on--I think EVERYONE should use their real names and not be nasty. Does that make you feel better? Funny how you addressed everything except the question I asked you. More diversion because you don't have an answer? As I said, no substance.
Star Thrower September 24, 2012 at 02:33 PM
BTW RK, I have many times given my OPINION why WC Vote is not to be trusted .. you're not much more than an attempt at unbiased credibility for a group you have already admitted was in collusion with corrupt legislators to pad their own pension fund.
Star Thrower September 24, 2012 at 02:43 PM
You twisted your own words - you could change WC Vote to Twisted Sister.
Robin Kaliner September 24, 2012 at 02:46 PM
I've admitted to being in collusion with corrupt legislators to pad their pension fund? Wow, please tell me where that happened. YOu know what, never mind. Clearly you dont have either the facts or the skill to have an intelligent debate based on facts, so you're wasting my time. Just keep throwing out your baseless claims, people will see you for what you are. I've got better things to do with my time.
Star Thrower September 24, 2012 at 03:02 PM
Perhaps this <snip> will jog your forgetfullness: On Jul 14, 2012, at 1:21 PM, Robin Kaliner wrote, in response to star_thrower: You are likely correct that there is collusion between unions and legislators, just as there is likely collusion between legislators and charter school “management companies” that charge excessive amounts for services to charter schools and then refuse to provide the same transparency that other recipients of tax-based education funding do. Yet I digress…because this is not about charter schools, but it is also not about union dues; it is about WCASD negotiating a contract that is best for WCASD, not what is best for those who want to cut off funding to unions.
Star Thrower September 24, 2012 at 03:05 PM
RE-read ... GROUP was in collusion - not you Ms twister
Star Thrower September 24, 2012 at 04:50 PM
I feel that I should post this reminder for edufan, who also agreed that the union colluded with corrupt legislators .. but more to the point, the main reminder for edufan is the TIDS that edufan obviously suffers from with the constant dogmatic "THREE FINGERS POINTING" mantra. On Sep 17, 2012, at 11:13 AM, edufan wrote: I am not denying that the unions may have been involved; however, you and your fellow cronies continually point your finger only one way (toward unions), and you know what happens when you do that?? 3 point toward you! You must be a politician!" On Sep 19, 2012, at 12:35 AM, edufan wrote: Hey, Thrower, guess what? I actually agree with you concerning videotaping the negotiations so then you will see just who needs to be scrutinized. You will see which "side" is compromising and which side is not. You only seem to listen to the one sided claims that are skewed; you do not have the decency to look at both sides. As for your assertion that I possess arrogant unionist behavior, you do not know me so don't presume that I am arrogant. Once again,I need to remind you that, while you point your judgmental finger to me, three are pointing right back to you." edufan, you will need "Transcending Dogma" to rid yourself of TIDS (teaching induced delusional syndrome) more about transcending dogma later, I am busy getting more facts for twisted sister.
Star Thrower September 24, 2012 at 05:04 PM
RoxyD, twisted sister is extremely proud of your never-wavering use of the ever popular union "hate-card" crutch .. I will try to find you a personalized "Transcending Dogma" if you wish to be removed from the "Hate-Card-Queen" semi-finals .. let me know hon.
edufan September 25, 2012 at 02:03 AM
But you don't hate, right s...thrower? Oh, and if you are going to FINALLY cite facts, please cite them correctly so we all can check then out. "RK" and I are anxiously waiting.
Star Thrower September 25, 2012 at 11:02 AM
The only thing YOU are likely to see from ME edufan is some help getting you to understand, and admit to your TIDS affliction - if and when THAT happens, you will then be able understand what I write - if you would care to refute what I have written about the 3FP obsession you continually attempt to insert as your defense that you belong somewhere other than a mental facility, then please be my guest and have at it. Also, please be so good to show me where I wrote that I would be citing ANYTHING for "RK" - I believe I wrote that I was GETTING facts for twisted sister not CITING anything for a mental case. At 9:42 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, you wrote this, edufan: "I am finished with you; you are now boring me. I am going to move on to mature discussions with adults who may not agree with me, but will respectful in their discussions. So go have a temper tantrum with someone else. Good bye" Once you clarify that lie that you wrote, we will be able to move on to your TIDS dysfunction.
