Slide Show: West Chester Teachers Donate Food

Members of the West Chester Area Education Association hold food drive for the West Chester Food Cupboard.

The West Chester Area Education Association delivered food donations collected during their annual food drive to the West Chester Food Cupboard on Wednesday, May 2.

Each spring, teachers from the West Chester Area School District participate in a food drive to collect much-needed donations on behalf of the West Chester Food Cupboard to help local families. The food drive, which began April 25, typically collects about 2,000 lbs. of food.

“This is often a strenuous time of year for local food banks like the West Chester Food Cupboard,” said Deborah Fell, president of the West Chester Area Education Association. “Food collected from their holiday donations are starting to run low. Therefore we try to help by holding a food drive so they may continue to serve families in our community who are in need.”

Most of the 943 teachers participated in the food drive representing 16 schools in the West Chester Area School District. The food collected will be used by area families in need during the summer months when children do not receive breakfast and lunch at school.
