“I’m saddened by his leaving,” said board president Dr. Ricky Swalm.  “He gave us all his wisdom and understanding.  He was valuable and will be hard to replace.”

Board member Sean Carpenter echoed Swalm’s sentiments.

“John was unique,” Carpenter said.  “It was a pleasure working with him, and I will miss him.”

Starting on Tuesday, the school board has 30 days to find a replacement to fill Wingerter’s seat.

The board will be accepting applications until March 7, and then they will begin an interview process.

Whoever is appointed to the board will serve out the term until a special election is held in November to fill the seat.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, several parents expressed concerns about abstinence only sex education students at Stetson Middle School received last year.

Allegedly, a local faith-based organization named Amnion came into Stetson middle school to teach abstinence-only sex education.

Several parents expressed concerns about this organization, claiming that faith-based sex education had no place in public schools and was generally ineffective.
