WCASD to Finalize Ad Contract

The West Chester Area School District Property and Finance Committee will vote to finalize its contract to put advertising in schools Monday.

The West Chester Area School Board Property and Finance Committee will vote on Tuesday to move forward with a contract that will allow advertising to be sold in schools.

The district has considered advertising as an additional revenue source since earlier in the year, and has been discussing what kind of advertising will be allowed ever since.

The contract is with a third party who will sell the advertising and take a percentage of the revenue.

The school district has also stated that the advertising allowed in schools will be "message based" and not "product based."

For example, an ad might say, "Read a Book," and then in small letters at the bottom it would say "Brought to you by Barnes and Noble."

The district also has rules on how much of the signage can be taken up by corporate logos.
