WCASD Superintendent Leaves Holiday Message

Dr. Jim Scanlon reflects on dealing with tragedy and the importance of making a positive impact.

The following is a press release from the West Chester Area School District.

To all in our WCASD Community,

I know the past week has been very stressful for everyone. The displays of strength, patience and perseverance on the part of our staff, students, and parents have helped keep things as normal as possible within the district. Although we all still feel the emotional impact of the tragic events that took place in Newtown, Connecticut, there are many wonderful things happening that should be celebrated as we try to move forward with a hopeful attitude. A great many have been quietly helping those in need this holiday season. In every building our staff and students have contributed to help families and children who are less fortunate. Our community is very lucky to have such dedicated professionals and caring young people in our schools who want to make a positive difference. Please take a moment to reflect on the great things that are being done by so many generous people making lives better in our area, and please have a safe, restful and happy holiday!

Jim Scanlon

Superintendent

West Chester Area School District

WCASD Shares Joy with our Community this Holiday Season

  • Nearly every one of our schools had some sort of giving tree/donation/collection that provided gifts, grocery store gift cards, food, coats, clothing, and other necessities to less fortunate local families. One school even purchased beds for a family whose children were sleeping on the floor. Students, staff and parents all contributed in a variety of ways.
  • East high school students traveled to Washington, D.C. to decorate the graves of our fallen heroes with wreaths. More than 10,000 wreaths were placed on the graves at Arlington National Cemetery.
  • Peirce Middle School Student Council collected stuffed animals for the 16th Annual Bear Fair sponsored by West Chester University.  The bears are given to youth living in shelters, children in hospitals, and kids in need of presents during the holiday season.
  • The East Bradford English Language Learners department gave books to the ELL children who do not have books at home. They are also lending Spanish-English  picture books to the parents so they can read with their children.
  • Several schools adopted families for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Several schools assisted with Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts, raising thousands of dollars.
  • Many of our schools held food drives for local food pantries, collecting hundreds of pounds of food.

All of our schools are making a difference for our community. The spirit of giving is alive in West Chester!

Thank you Mr. Scanlon for all you do for our children. Thank you to all my children's teachers and all the teachers in our district. The recent tragic events in Conn. has caused me to reflect on the integrity of the people I entrust my children to all day. I know that our teachers would risk their lives, god forbid, if the situation came up for our children. There is no price on that. I hope the teachers read this and know that the parents appreciate them and hope that the school board's hearts will change and realize that you deserve to be treated fairly. As a parent I will work to get a better board elected next time. Too many good administrators are/or will leave because of this horrendous board. So thank you Mr. Scanlon and our teachers.
John Smith December 22, 2012 at 02:48 PM
I don't know you Mr. Thrower nor do I care to. I know what WC Vote is however I am not a member if they even have them. I don't know what you mean about child abusers but i'd be very careful with using those words if I were you. I'm a parent who cares about who is caring for my children so why wouldn't i support the teachers?
John Smith December 22, 2012 at 02:57 PM
P.S. I care about the school district, I go to meetings but I don't belong to anything more than the PTO.
Rosemary Decker December 22, 2012 at 03:07 PM
Thank you Edu Watch.. Mr. or Ms. Thrower loves to paint the teachers of our district as horrible individuals only out for selfish purposes. What this person fails to see is how much we love the kids. It is time for the hateful rhetoric to stop. It serves no purpose and quite honestly only makes him or her look quite foolish in the eyes of any reasonable person. Whether WC Vote exists to promote public education or not, whether Star you agree with their mission or not, whether you think anyone who posts here supports them or not, whether you think everyone who posts here is the same person or not - WHO CARES. In the end the community by and large supports the schools, supports the kids and recognizes the quality of the education they receive. Nobody says its perfect, nothing in life is. Your only answer is to close down the schools to protect them from who? Go ahead and say it. From what I hear many have lawyers ready to take it on. Careful, your right of free speech does have limits.
Star Thrower December 22, 2012 at 05:23 PM
First of all Decker, please prove that my disgust for union teachers originates out of anything but their abuse of children - prove also that your unmistakeable dialectic of "any reasonable person" is not in the minority, simply because you have a coalition of conspirators who happen to have lost the school board vote, as well as the State Rep vote .. I have supported the schools also for over thirty years .. unfortunately now, mainly because of fiscal abuse, they are growing more unsustainable every day .. and it is only a matter of time (and how much more money the union has to extort from the future of children), before your brick and mortar schools are closed forever - I have posted it many times already .. if your bluster had any weight whatsoever, you or your gaggle of (taxpayer funded) lawyers would be already petitioning Patch for deletion of my previous comments - and it's no surprise that another faux parent showed up to spew for the manly girl admiration society since your Binder name got caught writing for WC Vote ... is it? Pretty sad that WC Vote could not let the Superintendent's holiday message be received without a snide comment about the board
Steve Maher December 22, 2012 at 06:32 PM
Please ignore Tanya Ciolko aka Star Thrower. She is a member of the PA Conservative Council and the Sheepdogs! These are right wing extremists group that have constantly attacked teachers in the past! Here is the link below to what she looks like! http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=tanya+ciolko&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#hl=en&client=safari&tbo=d&rls=en&spell=1&q=tania+ciolko&sa=X&ei=tvvVUOOsGqXw0gGNw4BA&ved=0CDEQvwUoAA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.dmQ&fp=616c4185e3aafb42&bpcl=40096503&biw=1280&bih=638

Mr. Speicher -was contacted and I will contact him again. You alleging abuse is not acceptable. You are a pretty low human being. And I am not afraid to attach my name to that statement. More than I can say for you. And by the way - the letter was sent out to all users of the WCASD network - so I assume that is the board as well as all staff of the district. Got it on my school email on Friday PM. What have you done for the community of late other than complain?
Star Thrower December 22, 2012 at 11:34 PM
Still ... not only is this thread a very sad picture indeed, but a true picture that the vindictive nature of the twisted sisters of WC Vote can find nothing else to write to Superintendent Scanlon's holiday message of hope, but additional proof of their relentless crusade to plan insidious attacks on the very taxpayers and parents who have entrusted the welfare of their children to a group not even worthy to be associated with children. If you think I am pretty low for a human being Decker.. tell me what you think of a group who steals the financial future of our children and grandchildren, whether they are alive today or yet to be born? I call this group a financial pedophile circle, and a confederation of child abusers .. I believe this to be absolute proof, not allegory, and as you can see, my name is star thrower and I am not afraid to attach it either - If some lawyer (possibly Mayer's lover) wants to officially question what I believe, I would really really enjoy seeing IP addresses connect to their phony Cathy Binder type names, and whatever the LSO's reveal in the conspiracy hearing - have not heard a peep out of Cathy lately .. how bout you?
Star Thrower December 22, 2012 at 11:34 PM
What I, as well as many other taxpayers have done for this community is, not only to pay more taxes, and receive less in the way of an educated graduate, who is able to find employment, so must take their teacher's advise and apply for an education mortgage, which they will start paying when they begin the long long emergency wait (for years) for a teaching position, simply because the union opposes a right to work law ... we are also exist to expose the parasitic faux collective bargaining laws, enabling a "Right to Work Law"
edufan December 23, 2012 at 12:43 AM
Star, you are so incorrect! We do NOT PAY more taxes and we have received a GREAT DEAL from our graduates. I personally know many seniors who have been recruited for top notch univeristies (including my own child!), and I also know of many community members who were educated in WCASD, graduated from college or tech schools and are now contributing, employed members of our WCASD community. So, be careful with your assumptions; they are not fact. Also your accusations are "confedrations of child abusers" is slanderous, and so I will indeed forward another one of your slanderous blogs to my attorney. We teachers are not abusers, and I am quite fed up with this kind of horrible accusation.
Cathy Binder December 23, 2012 at 12:17 PM
Star - may the peace of the Lord shine upon you. And the glory of His Son bring hope to your life. Heavens knows you need it. And I am not being sarcastic.
Star Thrower December 23, 2012 at 08:27 PM
Financial .. applicable to or relating to money. Pedophile .. Someone who molests children. Molest .. To harm another person.” What do you call someone who steals the financial future of your children and grandchildren, whether they are alive today or yet to be born? I call this person a financial pedophile, and a child abuser. So, let's see .. are you arguing with my definition? .. if so, please explain your definition - if not .. are you denying the unionist education system does not fit my description? if so, please explain the unfunded liabilities of the education system .. if you can't, ask your attorney to explain it to you as you slip your attorney some of that taxpayer supplied cash that's burning a hole in your pocket - I take it that your first go round with your attorney ended fruitlessly .. even after I posted my email address, I surely expected a cease and desist email. Make sure you send your attorney my email address this time.
Who Is Monk December 23, 2012 at 09:47 PM
Mr. Thrower- I will pray for you. You obviously suffer from a mental condition and the folks on her know that. I'm new, now I get it. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ bless you in this, your time of great need.
Star Thrower December 24, 2012 at 03:53 PM
You're not new, you're just another panicking Kaliner pseudonym who magically appears on queue .. completely devoid of an intelligent comment to my questions .. making feeble unionist attempts at ridicule .. while attempting to invoke Jesus Christ as your accomplice in the abuse of children - your true deity is the worship of Unionist Education, and their bloodletting of the taxpayer - you my friend are an apologist for parasites .. may you reap what you sew.
Cathy Binder December 24, 2012 at 09:40 PM
Shown for who you truly are. There is no intelligent response to your comments - as they lack any reasonable reasonable response. Anyone who thinks that all posters are the same person - really has a problem. To state otherwise is well - beyond - I cannot find words. And to ridicule those who wish you peace in the name of our Saviour - speaks miles as to your heart. I suggest you humbly accept the prayers offer your way. The Lord will accept them on your behalf regardless. And to accuse teachers of child abuse - shame on you. All because you hate property taxes - is that what this is about. How petty of you. As in the end that is all this is about. May the new year bring some perspective to you or at least good medical care.
Star Thrower December 25, 2012 at 12:20 PM
more proof that the parasitic 1% of the middle class have to parrot everything I write - I see you started on the cheap wine early yesterday also and more proof that truth is unreasonable to a parasitic entity - its not MY comments that lack a (reasonable-reasonable) response - it's your fear of answering truthfully to yes or no questions which would expose the child abuse you practice. union members and its symbionts are all the same entity, act as the same entity, and have long ago ceased to share the burden of the individual human taxpayers they feed on - this is exactly why you have no words of your own and why you have nothing better that parroting whatever I write - anyone who has studied dialectic can see that Binder/Decker/7dPrinceton is the same sad little spawn with a manly-girl napoleon complex.
Star Thrower December 25, 2012 at 12:21 PM
go back and read where the ridicule began with WC Vote Monk, who attempted ridicule, only to find herself the very epitome of self-inflicted ridicule - in fact go back to the very first comment by "WC Vote Edu Witch" to read where the habitual contumely, and vindictive ridicule of the twisted sisters becomes so self-evident - they have a desperate need to invent new faux parents to propagate the war on taxpayers by the red-shirted self-appointed high priests of education. continue also your exploitation of the Christmas holiday season by invoking the Lord and Savior who is totally absent 51 weeks of the year, from your true mission to decimate the future of children. may you reap what you sew, on your days of blasphemy.
Tania December 25, 2012 at 06:13 PM
The only extremist is Steve Maher (note I spelled your name correctly) who cannot help but lie. Thanks for sharing the photos. My personal favorite is this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cgram/2249888022/ The man I'm hugging is a former Navy SEAL who along with his team risked their lives to allow Steve Maher to lie on public forums. Come to think of it, what other personal issues has Steve lied about? Now that would be interesting to share :) Merry Christmas!
edufan December 28, 2012 at 09:45 PM
May God have mercy on you, Star. You are such a sad, little thing.
RoxyD December 29, 2012 at 12:29 AM
Reap what you sow. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Perhaps, you were the inspiration for Sean Carpenter's "Shot over the bow" essay. This is why both of you are going nowhere fast.

I am so convinced that Sean Carpenter and Star are one and the same. "They" both use the same rhetoric. They both love youtube, and you are correct, Roxy, they are both going nowhere fast.
Star Thrower January 01, 2013 at 03:34 AM
What is this? What happened to all the attorneys? Has the mercy of God shifted to obsession with Sean Carpenter all of a sudden, as you contemplate your sins against children? I suggest the sad little uneducated teaching spawn watch the video again, and learn more about how their union has been abusing children by obliterating their future with grotesque salary and pension greed - learn about the violence you continue to practice against these children, their parents, and most of all, the private sector taxpayer, who has been held hostage by a coercively controlled involuntarily funding system to educate children .. simply stated, you are using violence to extract money from people to pay for education - what do you expect when the kids find out? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWTYP6rcn30
edufan January 09, 2013 at 02:22 AM
Star/Simon: What, in God's name, are you rambling about now? I really think you are losing it! I looked at that video, and that "man" just rambled on about nothiing but paranoid delusion. Hmm. must be a relative of yours.
Star Thrower January 09, 2013 at 12:21 PM
Does that mean all your relatives are child abusers?
