East, Henderson Named Top 1000 High Schools

East and Henderson High Schools in the West Chester Area School District are named top 1000 high schools according to Newsweek.

Newsweek has released its annual list of the top 1000 high schools in the nation and both East and Henderson High Schools in the West Chester Area School District made the cut.

According to Newsweek:

This year, our ranking highlights the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation—the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. The list is based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered  per student(5 percent).

West Chester East was ranked 863 out of 1000, and Henderson came in at 925.

"There are an estimated 24,000 high schools in the U.S., and we had two of the top 1000 this year.  As well as one in the top 500 last year with Rustin.  We have three high schools that are all rated in the top 10 percent in the nation," said district superintendent Dr. Jim Scanlon.
