12 WCASD Seniors named National Merit Semifinalists

A group of West Chester Area School District students kill their PSATs

The following is a press release from the West Chester Area School District.

Twelve seniors from the West Chester Area School District – six from East, two from B. Reed Henderson, and four from Bayard Rustin – have been named semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

In order to be ranked as a semifinalist, students must place among the nation’s highest scorers in the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Nationally, approximately 16,000 students – or less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors – advance to the semifinalist stage. To receive finalist status, students must obtain similarly high scores in the Scholastic Assessment Tests (SATs), show exemplary academic performance in high school, and receive the endorsement and recommendation of their high school principals. Finalists, who become eligible for various scholarships, will be announced in the spring.
