West Chester Puts Up 25 Parking Spaces for Lease

The borough will begin leasing spaces in lot 10 located at 50 W. Chestnut Street.

West Chester Borough Council voted unanimously on Wednesday to authorize the leasing of 25 parking spaces located in the eastern half of lot 10.

Situated at 50 W. Chestnut Street, the lot sits on the corner of the intersection of Chestnut and Church streets where the borough hosts the Saturday Growers' Market.

The borough considered leasing the spaces after a nearby landlord requested seven spaces to lease to his residents.

"Nobody's using them right now," said council member Jim Jones.  "This should generate revenue for the borough, and we should come out ahead."

The leases for the spaces will be month to month, and the borough added a measure that would prevent the parking spaces from being sublet.  The spots will also cost $50 per month.

Several borough council members expressed that the borough should be the one making money off of these spaces not anyone else.
